Vater Percussion Hammer Review

(More customer reviews)I wasn't expecting much from these sticks... I mean, c'mon, no tip? How good could it sound? Well, the answer is AMAZING! Granted, it's not as precise a sound on a ride cymbal, but it's a huge sound, especially on my Ping ride.
Yes, these sticks are loud, compared to tipped sticks, and the tone you get is much more concentrated in the fundamental pitch, rather than the overtones (that can be a good thing, or a bad thing, depending on what you're looking for). I've found, however, that I have to work a lot less at playing at higher volumes - I can lighten up on my technique and still get a full tone and plenty of volume to cut through an amplified band.
The feel is something different, as well. Since there's no taper in the shoulder, the balance point is at exactly the midpoint of the stick. I had some trouble with double strokes and rolls at first, until I learned to choke up a bit more. What's nice is that I can dramatically change the feel (and tone/volume) just by changing my grip location; choke up for lighter and more precise work, slide back to really lay into it. I found the difference to be much more than with any tipped sticks I've tried.
One other note: I don't these sticks will ever break. I play pretty roughly in one band, and there are nicks galore in the last quarter of the stick, but since there's no taper, there's no weak point! If you want economy, these will redefine it for you.
These are definitely rock sticks, or for any high engergy/high volume music. One of the bands I play in covers a lot of stylistic ground, and I've found while I *can* use the Hammers for anything, some styles (especially more jazz/funk oriented) do come out better with a lighter, tipped stick. I've got to say though, right now the Vater Hammer is my absolute favorite stick!!

(More customer reviews)This kit blows the competition out of the water! All of the included drum sounds are studio quality and can be edited to your liking. The module is very user-friendly, which makes customizing your own kits a breeze. The initial setup only took about fifteen minutes and everything was included, except for stereo adapters (and no throne or bass pedal, but I had those already). The pads feel much more true to an acoustic set than the electronic kits I tried out at my local music stores. Plus, they are so silent that my set is in a room with an aquatic turtle and he doesn't even scoff at them. I would definitely recommend this over the other electronic drum sets in the same price range. I've played the dm6 and the sound quality is not even close. the Roland HD-1 is nice because it's small but the sub-par sounds and the lack of customization options made it feel more like a toy when I played it. The Yamaha Dtxplorer seemed pretty close in comparison, but it didn't feel real enough for me. So there you go! For around $600 you cannot go wrong with the dm7. I love everything about this kit and a part of me wishes I had gotten one of these before I got my acoustic kit.

Gibraltar GBDP Bass Drum Pads Review

(More customer reviews)Bought this for hooking up a Reed Switch driven bass pedal for Rock Band (www.scorehero.com in the hardware forums for info). It worked good, it is not quiet by any means. If you have your own house and like the thump, it is great but you will probably need to pass on this idea if you are in an apartment or something (unless maybe if you are on the ground floor). I'm not a "real" drummer, but it does seem to be a little mushy. Overall I was happy with the purchase.

Signature Music Motorcycle Style Drum Throne Heavy Duty 7187 Review

My last throne was a pretty standard Tama throne and every day I sit on this throne I miss my old Tama. This throne spins for height adjustment, which at first you think isn't that bad but after time goes on you realize that it is more of a pain then what it is worth. To get it to the right height you have to sit over it and spin it like a retard. You're better off just buying something else...
THE WORST PART ABOUT THIS IS:
I was playing my drums one day and I leaned over to pick something up and the mounts underneath the seat that is connected to the hardware snapped like a twig. This was way beyond repair. I am by no means a small guy (230 lbs) but my old Tama throne took a beating 10X worse then this seat and never even flinched. The motorcycle style doesn't do anything special either. Stick with the standard round seat.

Trust me, I am not an abusive drummer and the tip broke right off as it was dancing on my Ride Bell. The sound was excellent as I gave them at least two stars, but every drummer looks for a strong stick. That is all.

(More customer reviews)I really only play Rock Band and GH, but I love to drum. I have the Ion drums with modifications. I have only used a few sticks, but not just the ones that come with the games. I love these sticks. They are by far my prefered set out of about 6 different sets I have so far. They feel nice. They are heavier and bigger around than the ones from the games, which for me is good because I have gained a little control. I don't hit as hard now because the sticks feel substantial enough to get a good trigger. This means I can use a softer touch and this has made me more accurate. I am an adult with average adult male hands. These may not be the right sticks for your kids who also play the games.

Stagg DT-32 Drum Throne Review

I purchased this Drum Throne just for Rock Band on the Xbox; using the couch or our office chair wasn't working too well. For the price, we couldn't pass this up.
This is the first Drum Throne I've ever used and for our needs, its more than perfect.
You can adjust the height by removing a screw from the center rod; it works well for people of all heights. My only real complaint is that the adjustment doesn't really lock into place. The adjustment screw just sits in a wedge within the base. You can tighten the screw, but it often comes out. Because of this, if you need to move the stool, you have to take it from the bottom instead of just grabbing it by the seat. Its definitely not a deal breaker, though.
Having said that... its light, easy to store and even easier to setup.
While it works excellent for fake rocking out, I, unfortunately, cannot comment on actually drumming.

I use these sticks on a set of Roland TD-6's and they are the only thing that seem to hold up on the rubber pads. They feel and look great and hold up really well in all playing situations.

Vic Firth Nova 5A Drum Stick Brick (Nylon Tip, 12 Pair) Review

(More customer reviews)Twelve pairs of this Nova drumsticks lasted to me the same of one pair of regular Vic Firth 5AN. They broke easily in ways you could never imagine like in 10 seconds of playing a simple rock groove they cracked cleanly about 1 inch from the tip with no reason. I think there is no quality control at all for these things (because definitly they aren't drumsticks). Believe me, never buy Nova sticks (unless you want them to set a fire). I am a guy who read profoundly every opinion people leave in the products I'm interested to in amazon and is really useful for my pre-buying selection process. When I bought this 12-pack there was no customer reviews so I decided to take my risks and buy, it appears to be such a bargain but it was not. I will try to take some pics of the sawdust this sticks turn to to provide you with a forceful reason to not buy them.

Zildjian 5BND 5b Nylon Dip Drumsticks Review

However, I agree with the other reviewer that they're almost too grippy. I thought I had some pretty decent drum callouses going, but these sticks tore right through them. Maybe if you play every day and you've got leathery hands, it won't bother you.
