Vater Percussion Hammer Review

I wasn't expecting much from these sticks... I mean, c'mon, no tip? How good could it sound? Well, the answer is AMAZING! Granted, it's not as precise a sound on a ride cymbal, but it's a huge sound, especially on my Ping ride.
Yes, these sticks are loud, compared to tipped sticks, and the tone you get is much more concentrated in the fundamental pitch, rather than the overtones (that can be a good thing, or a bad thing, depending on what you're looking for). I've found, however, that I have to work a lot less at playing at higher volumes - I can lighten up on my technique and still get a full tone and plenty of volume to cut through an amplified band.
The feel is something different, as well. Since there's no taper in the shoulder, the balance point is at exactly the midpoint of the stick. I had some trouble with double strokes and rolls at first, until I learned to choke up a bit more. What's nice is that I can dramatically change the feel (and tone/volume) just by changing my grip location; choke up for lighter and more precise work, slide back to really lay into it. I found the difference to be much more than with any tipped sticks I've tried.
One other note: I don't these sticks will ever break. I play pretty roughly in one band, and there are nicks galore in the last quarter of the stick, but since there's no taper, there's no weak point! If you want economy, these will redefine it for you.
These are definitely rock sticks, or for any high engergy/high volume music. One of the bands I play in covers a lot of stylistic ground, and I've found while I *can* use the Hammers for anything, some styles (especially more jazz/funk oriented) do come out better with a lighter, tipped stick. I've got to say though, right now the Vater Hammer is my absolute favorite stick!!

Carbosticks, Carbon Fiber Drumsticks, 7ACTR, Light Weight, Red, Jazz & Pop Review

Average Reviews:

I ignored a couple of earlier reviews because every drummer is different and treat their sticks differently. I have had my sticks for 2 weeks and the tip broke right off. Trust me, I am not an abusive drummer and the tip broke right off as it was dancing on my Ride Bell. The sound was excellent as I gave them at least two stars, but every drummer looks for a strong stick. That is all.

Vic Firth American Classic? 5BN -- nylon tip Review

Vic Firth American Classic? 5BN -- nylon tip

I really only play Rock Band and GH, but I love to drum. I have the Ion drums with modifications. I have only used a few sticks, but not just the ones that come with the games. I love these sticks. They are by far my prefered set out of about 6 different sets I have so far. They feel nice. They are heavier and bigger around than the ones from the games, which for me is good because I have gained a little control. I don't hit as hard now because the sticks feel substantial enough to get a good trigger. This means I can use a softer touch and this has made me more accurate. I am an adult with average adult male hands. These may not be the right sticks for your kids who also play the games.

Lately, I've been dropping my sticks too often, so I picked up some of these. Didn't drop my sticks once, and they felt great.
However, I agree with the other reviewer that they're almost too grippy. I thought I had some pretty decent drum callouses going, but these sticks tore right through them. Maybe if you play every day and you've got leathery hands, it won't bother you.

Although these sticks sound good with cymbals, they give my hands blisters and do not have an adequate rebound compared to Vic Firth sticks. I have also been playing drums for 7 years, and I used these sticks for about a year. Also, for live shows, most drummers tend to sweat. The sweat on your hands combined with the rubber stick starts to slip. These sticks break easily, and the rubber doesn't last long.

These sticks are pretty cool. I hear some drummers don't like the feel, but it's just fine to me. And man do these things last! I'm a professional musician that plays regularly, and I've been using the same pair of sticks for over a year now! They've got a good number of nicks in them, but still solid. I bet these will last to the end of this year, giving them a 1 1/2 year lifespan. Awesome!

Zildjian 5ANR 5a Nylon Red Drumsticks Review

Zildjian 5ANR 5a Nylon Red Drumsticks
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ordered these in January (3 months ago) for my daughter, she has used them a little, but now she is saying they
make a dead sound on the cymbals because there is something like an air bubble on one of the tips. So when she happens to hit the cymbal on that part of the stick, it sounds flat. Which translates to me that she won't be using them that much and I will inevitably have to get another pair for her. Admittedly, I don't know if that is something that naturally happens, but she has other similar drumsticks that she has had for a long time and they haven't caused her any issues.

I've been using Carbosticks for years now and I've only broken 2 pairs out of the dozens I've bought! I play extreme metal so I probably hit a lot harder than some which makes it more impressive that they don't break. They are comfortable, responsive and I like the idea of black drum sticks! Definitely my favorite stick! You won't be dissapointed!

Average Reviews:

I bought these sticks for a "metal" drummer. I thought they would be more comfortable to use than the traditionall all wood sticks, but after an evening of "banging" he ended up with a few blisters. Not sure why....perhaps he just wasn't used to the rubber grip or their "non-slip" character? I think maybe the rubber caused his fingers to be a little moister than usual ? Try them, but don't buy a bunch, just in case...

RegalTip 110NT Regal Hick Nt Sticks Combo Review

RegalTip 110NT Regal Hick Nt Sticks Combo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before discovering this gem I was stuck with 7a sticks, which ran between .5 and .515 inches in diameter depending on which company made them. I have small hands and play lite, so was never quite satisfied with 7a sticks. This stick is 16 inches long with a .475 inch diameter, and is a perfect fit for me.
I realize that many drummers use 5a sticks for rock and either 7a or 11a for jazz, but if you are in the small minority like myself, this stick will noticably improve your speed.
A few other points in this stick's favor include a great nylon tip that gives superior cymbal definition, especially on hi-hats. It also is sturdy and can withstand heavier playing.
Other sticks you may want to explore if you primarily use 7a are the Joe Porcaro signature stick by DRUMS IN THE WIND (lite maple with a diamond-shaped nylon tip for intricate cymbal work). This stick measures 15.75 inches long by .525 inch diameter. While thicker than most 7a sticks, this one is feather lite and will let you blaze. I also use the PROMARK 7a (15 3/8 inches long with a .5 inch diameter), and their Jazz model, which has the same diameter, but is 16 inches long - both in hickory with nylon tips. If you do consider the PROMARK sticks, avoid their LA line of sticks. These are factory seconds and are of inconsistent quality.
