Zildjian 5ANR 5a Nylon Red Drumsticks Review

(More customer reviews)Ordered these in January (3 months ago) for my daughter, she has used them a little, but now she is saying they
make a dead sound on the cymbals because there is something like an air bubble on one of the tips. So when she happens to hit the cymbal on that part of the stick, it sounds flat. Which translates to me that she won't be using them that much and I will inevitably have to get another pair for her. Admittedly, I don't know if that is something that naturally happens, but she has other similar drumsticks that she has had for a long time and they haven't caused her any issues.

RegalTip 110NT Regal Hick Nt Sticks Combo Review

(More customer reviews)Before discovering this gem I was stuck with 7a sticks, which ran between .5 and .515 inches in diameter depending on which company made them. I have small hands and play lite, so was never quite satisfied with 7a sticks. This stick is 16 inches long with a .475 inch diameter, and is a perfect fit for me.
I realize that many drummers use 5a sticks for rock and either 7a or 11a for jazz, but if you are in the small minority like myself, this stick will noticably improve your speed.
A few other points in this stick's favor include a great nylon tip that gives superior cymbal definition, especially on hi-hats. It also is sturdy and can withstand heavier playing.
Other sticks you may want to explore if you primarily use 7a are the Joe Porcaro signature stick by DRUMS IN THE WIND (lite maple with a diamond-shaped nylon tip for intricate cymbal work). This stick measures 15.75 inches long by .525 inch diameter. While thicker than most 7a sticks, this one is feather lite and will let you blaze. I also use the PROMARK 7a (15 3/8 inches long with a .5 inch diameter), and their Jazz model, which has the same diameter, but is 16 inches long - both in hickory with nylon tips. If you do consider the PROMARK sticks, avoid their LA line of sticks. These are factory seconds and are of inconsistent quality.

(More customer reviews)Bought these as a replacement for the balsa wood rock band 2 drums. These are more substantial - these sticks don't feel like they'll snap in half. Also these sticks are smoother than the Rock Band 2 drum sticks but not slippery. Recommended.

Zildjian RNKR Rock Nylon Red Drumsticks Review

I still like the way they look and feel even though my hands turned red after 20 min of use. It wasn't terrible, just noticeably red.

Vic Firth American Custom? SD2 Bolero Review

(More customer reviews)Until I came upon the Vic Firth Bolero I used all kinds of light jazz sticks made of hickory and on the thin side. The last of these was the Firth 8D, but I haven't touched a stick of that kind since giving the Bolero a try. Here's the deal: you get something fat in the hand, therefore easy to grasp, but with the weight of a light jazz stick, and a small round tip that yields a precise, delicate cymbal ping---to my ear, the most beautiful cymbal sound available. Additional virtues: the substantial amount of maple in the stick does not convey the usual shock of impact to the hand, and the tips last a lot longer than those on any other stick I've used. The Bolero improved my playing and increased my comfort on the instrument. Not a stick for hard-rockers, but anyone else should give it a try. It may suit your needs as well as it suits mine. I wouldn't want to play anything else. (Though I wish Firth would reissue its Super Bolero, which was a bit longer.) To sum up: big stick, light weight, control, comfort, gorgeous sound.

Pro-Mark 747 Neil Peart Signature Oak Wood Tip Drumsticks Review

(More customer reviews)These lightweight-yet-sturdy sticks hold up great. I used to play in a punk/metal band about 12 years ago and bought these by the box - though I ended up giving more away than actually breaking them. Unlike the nylon tips (which always seemed to snap off in less than a month) these wooden sticks would retain their shape and power to the bitter end - usually many months later. Now I've returned to drums and find these to be equally as comfortable and powerful as they've ever been. Look beyond whose name is attached to them. They are great sticks for drummers at any level.
