Vater Percussion Hammer Review

I wasn't expecting much from these sticks... I mean, c'mon, no tip? How good could it sound? Well, the answer is AMAZING! Granted, it's not as precise a sound on a ride cymbal, but it's a huge sound, especially on my Ping ride.
Yes, these sticks are loud, compared to tipped sticks, and the tone you get is much more concentrated in the fundamental pitch, rather than the overtones (that can be a good thing, or a bad thing, depending on what you're looking for). I've found, however, that I have to work a lot less at playing at higher volumes - I can lighten up on my technique and still get a full tone and plenty of volume to cut through an amplified band.
The feel is something different, as well. Since there's no taper in the shoulder, the balance point is at exactly the midpoint of the stick. I had some trouble with double strokes and rolls at first, until I learned to choke up a bit more. What's nice is that I can dramatically change the feel (and tone/volume) just by changing my grip location; choke up for lighter and more precise work, slide back to really lay into it. I found the difference to be much more than with any tipped sticks I've tried.
One other note: I don't these sticks will ever break. I play pretty roughly in one band, and there are nicks galore in the last quarter of the stick, but since there's no taper, there's no weak point! If you want economy, these will redefine it for you.
These are definitely rock sticks, or for any high engergy/high volume music. One of the bands I play in covers a lot of stylistic ground, and I've found while I *can* use the Hammers for anything, some styles (especially more jazz/funk oriented) do come out better with a lighter, tipped stick. I've got to say though, right now the Vater Hammer is my absolute favorite stick!!

Vater Percussion Color Wrap 5A Drumsticks, Black Optic, Wood Tip Review

These replaced my Rock Band drumsticks that succumbed to an overenthusiastic rendition of 'White Wedding'. I was concerned about their compatibility, as they do not have the Rock Band logo on them, but they work fine. On a plus note, they are painted with some reflective, multi-color paint, that sparkles nicely. Quite fabulous.

Loose nylon tips right out of the box!! Both sets had to be reglued. My son was embarrased w/ these sticks and wouldn't use them in the band. Used for practice (when the tip are not falling off). AND they were so out of balance he ended up throwing away.
Sorry Innovative Percussion, but just telling it like it is.

Carbosticks, Carbon Fiber Drumsticks, 7ACTR, Light Weight, Red, Jazz and Pop
Average Reviews:

I ignored a couple of earlier reviews because every drummer is different and treat their sticks differently. I have had my sticks for 2 weeks and the tip broke right off. Trust me, I am not an abusive drummer and the tip broke right off as it was dancing on my Ride Bell. The sound was excellent as I gave them at least two stars, but every drummer looks for a strong stick. That is all.

Look, I'm not going to actually review these sticks because if you're going to buy drum sticks, you should already know how they feel.. If you've never tried these sticks before I would recommend going to a store and trying a few pairs out to make sure you like them... That being said, the sticks arrived when they were supposed to from the seller, and in perfect usable condition. Again, I already knew that I loved these sticks because I had played with them before, I was simply buying them online for the savings...

Iam not a very good drummer and iam still teaching myself drums. These so far are the best sticks that i have ever used. i also used them on my rock band kit and they are perfect even for a plastic drum kit. Love the feel, very good weight and perfect length. overall probably the only sticks i will ever use. Highly recommended. Also a nice bonus is they are made in the USA!

I wasn't around at the time, but the repercussions were still being felt when I entered the arena following the gory battle between dedicated calf hitters and those mamby-pamby plastic tappers. I am viewing a very similar scenario regarding wood versus synthetic drum sticks. Being a heavy hitter, I have been continuously plagued by the ever decreasing quality of Hickory available to stick manufacturers. Before I deserted the arboreal realms I was achieving less than 3 gigs out of a pair of Pro-mark 7A, having abandoned Vic et al along the way. I use light sticks and hit the drums hard; and because they are Gretsch - with those big fat die-cast rims and super thin shells, the result is astonishing! Then I discovered Carbosticks, and after less than a week of gigs my hands had completely forgotten the wood. Nothing ambiguous here boys and girls, let's constrain ourselves to the issue in hand! I am happy to extol the many additional virtues of these sticks but suffice to say at this point that I am now using one pair per 50+ gigs. Apart from their longevity, which initially was the primary consideration, these sticks can offer so many variations on the original theme that the mind boggles. First of all, the weight can be varied so you can have a light, medium or heavy version (same dimensions but different weight) of your preferred model. Secondly: the balance of each weight variation can be shifted to the front or the back; so you can have a light version but forward weighted which will give a slightly stronger downstroke; set the balance to the rear on a heavy stick and it feels substantial in your hand, but the downstroke is eased by the rear balance. As if this wasn't enough, you can vary the size of the tip as well! Personally, I love having variations on my favoured model because different bands, different songs in each band, and different room acoustics can all demand a change of power and an alternative pair of sticks can make all the difference. After using them for four years now I can also tell you that the myth about cymbal damage is just that: a myth. I've got medium and light 16" crashes at the front, which I hit hard, and they show absolutely no sign of fatigue. You may think I must work for the manufacturers - but I don't, I just feel that the days of wood are dwindling along with the trees and here we have technology giving us an improved alternative and I haven't even mentioned the reason why a German engineer came to design and develop these sticks: well, it was because he developed Carpel Tunnel Syndrome and his quack told him he must stop playing the drums as the shock of stick impact was doing the damage. He decided, obviously, that rather than abandon his beloved drumming he would design a stick that displayed significant shock absorption - which he did: these sticks transmit 80% less shock to the hands and wrists than wood. Enough said?
Incidentally, they also wick away moisture far better than wood.

Vic Firth American Classic? 5BN -- nylon tip Review

Vic Firth American Classic? 5BN -- nylon tip
Average Reviews:

I really only play Rock Band and GH, but I love to drum. I have the Ion drums with modifications. I have only used a few sticks, but not just the ones that come with the games. I love these sticks. They are by far my prefered set out of about 6 different sets I have so far. They feel nice. They are heavier and bigger around than the ones from the games, which for me is good because I have gained a little control. I don't hit as hard now because the sticks feel substantial enough to get a good trigger. This means I can use a softer touch and this has made me more accurate. I am an adult with average adult male hands. These may not be the right sticks for your kids who also play the games.

Seriously. What a total rip off!!! $50 for 2 pairs of drum sticks!!!! And then $12 for shipping!! Even though they are sized for youngsters, they aren't even worth 1/4 of what they are being sold for. All I can think is that they are up here for grandmas who don't know any better to buy for birthdays and christmas at a ludicrous markup. Shame on this merchant.

This was a replacement for a pair of Carbostix I have had for a number of years. One of mine finally broke and I wanted another set. I use these sticks on a set of Roland TD-6's and they are the only thing that seem to hold up on the rubber pads. They feel and look great and hold up really well in all playing situations.

Good balance and I enjoyed the feel in my hands as well as coming off the drum head. I've played with rods for some time, and even with controlled force on the heads and cymbals, they started coming apart in only a few hours. If you are very very very careful, you may enjoy these, but I'll be trying another product.

Vic Firth Nova 5A Drum Stick Brick (Nylon Tip, 12 Pair) Review

Vic Firth Nova 5A Drum Stick Brick (Nylon Tip, 12 Pair)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Twelve pairs of this Nova drumsticks lasted to me the same of one pair of regular Vic Firth 5AN. They broke easily in ways you could never imagine like in 10 seconds of playing a simple rock groove they cracked cleanly about 1 inch from the tip with no reason. I think there is no quality control at all for these things (because definitly they aren't drumsticks). Believe me, never buy Nova sticks (unless you want them to set a fire). I am a guy who read profoundly every opinion people leave in the products I'm interested to in amazon and is really useful for my pre-buying selection process. When I bought this 12-pack there was no customer reviews so I decided to take my risks and buy, it appears to be such a bargain but it was not. I will try to take some pics of the sawdust this sticks turn to to provide you with a forceful reason to not buy them.
