(More customer reviews)I typically play with jazz sticks, preferably pro mark Japanese oak 7as. I have a friend who plays 5bs, and is always getting me to try heavier sticks. We both play in a local bar and the sound is awesome there. The thing my 5b friend keeps telling me is that the 7as aren't projecting the drum sounds loud enough to punch through the amps and pa speakers. I agree, but am not willing to sacrifice speed for projection. With these John Riley Sticks I get everything! The sticks are really long and are in between a 5b and a 7a. However, these are the most dense drum sticks I have ever played with!! They are weighted and heavy like a 5b, but quick and agile like a 7a. I find that they really project the drum sounds like a heavy stick but aren't cumbersome and clumsy when it comes to quick fills or double time or anything that fast sticks are good for. The feel perfect in my hands. I am still getting use to the weight, but they feel better and better! The draw perfect sound out of my drums as I thoroughly enjoy playing every lick I play!! Like everything John Riley puts his name on, whatever it is is very well conceived and executed. These sticks are "concert Jazz" sticks that don't disappoint. The tips are also great, a modified tear shape with a low curve. Overall I def. recommend these sticks for the drummer that doesn't want to sacrifice speed and also needs a deeper projection from the drums set to compete with amps. Great sticks, feel better than fleece underpants!!

Alesis Electronic Cymbal Trigger for DM5 PRO Kit Review

(More customer reviews)I decided to get this cymbal for my Rock Band ION set. I have to say it's an awesome add on. In my opinion, this cymbal is a bit quieter than the ION cymbals that come with the set. The overall quality of the product is great and the size is great. You end up saving a couple of inches from the back if you're worried about storage space when you're not playing or if you're playing against a wall (remember you can use the IONs as a real drumset or play Rock Band on freestyle)... then again, the ION cymbals are huge compared to this one so you'd have to have all 3 to actually save some space.
I hadn't played Rock Band with cymbals until I got the ION set and I have to say it adds a lot to the game. It's more realistic and much MUCH harder to play the game... and you look a hell of a lot cooler! You won't get any sign or cue of when you should hit the cymbals so it's ok if you hit the pad when it's a cymbal hit and vice versa... I guess you just have to feel when you're supposed to hit it or learn when. I hope this gets taken care of in Rock Band 3 or in a patch for Rock Band 2. I haven't learned any of the songs by memory so I still have to look at the colors on the screen, so it's confusing to have the green cymbal (crash) on the left and the blue one (ride) on the right. Of course I can just swap them but I'm going for the traditional drum setup so it's just a matter of choice.

GP50 Junior Child Complete Drum Set - Metallic Midnite Blue (For 3 to 8 yrs) Review

(More customer reviews)When my oldest son was 5 (14 years ago) I purchased a drum set for him from a music store. I paid about $100 back then and it fell apart within a week. I was very disappointed with the quality and sound of that kit. Now that I wanted to buy a set for my 4 year old, I was very careful in selecting a "real" drum set that he can enjoy for years and grow into. The GP50 is definitely it!
This is the real deal and not a toy. Sound is excellent and the build quality is great. At under $150, this set is a bargain. Some have mentioned it is time consuming to build, but I found it rather easy and had it together in no time.
My only complaint is the bass pedal squeak. It was so bad it, it was almost louder than the drums. I had to add a washer between where the bolt and the bracket meet and do a little tweaking by loosening and tightening the nuts until the squeak stopped. The pedal was already pre assembled, but I feel they should have added a bushing to prevent the squeak.
I am still very happy with this set (and so is my 4 year old). Perhaps the pedal problem was just with the one I received. It may or may not always be a problem, but it is easy to fix.

Vic Firth Signature Series -- Steve Gadd Review

(More customer reviews)If you don't like using a lighter stick, these sticks just might change your mind. There is something about these sticks I enjoy. Maybe it's the round tips that make playing these sticks unique but they feel good. Less attack than your average stick, best for jazzier or softer songs. Another must have for a diverse drummer.

(More customer reviews)I purchased the blue set for our 4 year old son for Christmas. The set arrived sooner than expected and was easy to assemble. I was very pleased with the quality and sound of the set. It was worth the extra money to purchase a true instrument as this than the cheap, poorly-crafted sets at the major toy store chains I researched. Our son loves to play on them and definitely doesn't hold back on hitting them and there are no signs of wear. Due to an unfortunate accident the cymbal arm was broken (not by normal use) and needed to be replaced. I called Vintage Drum Center and actual spoke to a live person; the owner none-the-less! (how often does that happen now?!)and explained what happened. Without hesitation he offered to ship out a new cymbal arm at no cost and apologized for the inconvenience (excellent customer service..take note major chains). The owner even did a follow-up call to give me the Fed Ex tracking number and offered any further assistance if needed. If our son continues to play and becomes more interested in the drums, I will definitely purchase his next set from Vintage Drum Center.

(More customer reviews)Thank you so much to Austin Bazaar. The drum set looked wonderful and was received on time however, the crash cymbal was dented. I spoke to an Amazon customer rep and they gave me the number to Austin Bazaar. I left them a message and they promptly returned my call. They are shipping me a replacement cymbal immediately and told me to call back if I had any other questions. It made me feel wonderful about this fairly large Christmas present purchase. The drum set looks perfect otherwise. Our 2 1/2 year old is going to love it. I anticipate it will be a "hit"!
***UPDATE*** The drum set is a hit with both my 2 1/2 year old and also his 6 year old sister. My brother is a professional percussionist and he was impressed with the quality of this junior drum set. I had another professional drummer assemble the set for us. He thought the set was great. It took him (a professional who has assembled MANY sets) between 30-40 mins. This included him professionally tuning the heads for us. If we had been left to do all of this ourselves it would have taken MUCH longer so be sure to set aside plenty of time for assembly. It is a beautiful set! Love the red metallic!

Paco 5-Piece drum set in Wine Red Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this kid as a second drumset for practicing with bands. I wanted something cheap to save money to refurbish my Pearls for gigging. First off you have to assemble everything. The stands are ok and will do the job. The kit itself looks good but the wrapping on the drums could of been done better. The heads that came with it are really bad so I would say get some good Remo heads for it. There is no muffler system on any of the toms so I use slips made for a turkish towel that helped with the over tunes. I also use a blanket in the bass drum to give it a solid sound. The snare really needs 2 good heads to really help it. After all that I did get a good sound but for $100 more I could of found a better kit and saved on the extras.

(More customer reviews)My 4-year-old nephew requested a drum set for Christmas and I didn't want to buy him something that "just made noise" but a musical instrument that could grow with him. I hesitated before spending this amount of money on an instrument that he might not want to learn, but when I passed up the opportunity to get it for Christmas and he seemed disappointed I decided to purchase it for his birthday. When we unpacked the instrument we truly began to realize what a terrific value this drum set is for the amount of money that we paid for it. We received 5 drums, 2 cymbals, a stool, and drumsticks - the set was beautiful and clearly good quality. The birthday guests were all very impressed by the professional look - a family member with professional experience in music "confirmed" that this is indeed a quality musical instrument rather than just a good looking toy. It was good that we had this family member around - the drums needed to be tuned and positioned correctly and we, as non-drummers, were fairly off in our set-up. However, the seller had provided us with clear instructions and offers of assistance that made us right enough that our nephew never would have known our errors in any case. Most importantly, our nephew was clearly thrilled with the gift - he played the rest of the afternoon only stopping long enough to let his younger brother take a very brief nap. When he heard his brother wake up, he RAN back to the drums to play again. He says that he is a rock star now and I'm not sure if he sounds like one, but he sure does look like one with his awesome drum set!
