Trinity College TB-6 Bodhran with Oak Rim Review

Trinity College TB-6 Bodhran with Oak Rim
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a wonderful instrument. Oak is pretty plain, clear varnish. Pronounced Bo'Ron, it's an effective goat skinned drum made in Pakistan. It has a single bar in the back, few drums these days even put them in as they are not necessary to playing. Tipper is nice. I got two of these due to slow shipping and an approaching birthday. Both came from the same importer, laugh's on me. That's okay, we had another drummer in the family. Clue: If you try to cancel an order with Amazon and you are not sure it did, it didn't. Love the bo rons. Saga includes the Oklahoma Guarantee with every drum: If your drum breaks in half, you own both halves or something like that. It's in the package.

Knob Tipper with Off-Center Double Ridge Review

Knob Tipper with Off-Center Double Ridge
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Since I started playing bodhran I've bought and played around with several tippers. While the heavy tippers in the mid-east line helped to get a nice solid sound in the first month or so of learning, I found that as my skill developed I was able to get a greater range of sounds from lighter tippers (such as thins one). I believe that the reason for this is the heavier tippers mute the reverberation of the skin when they strike, while the lighter ones bounce and let the skin vibrate more. I enjoy the sound-balance from this tipper, because while it allows the sound of the skin to come through, the knobs give it just enough weight to lend my strikes a little thud. Of course, I'm sure personal preference, play-style and drum-make all contribute to my preference for this tipper. It's also worth looking into lighter-weight tippers such as this if the impact of the heavier ones bothers your hand/wrist after longer practice sessions (which I find to be the case).
It seems functional for both single or double-ended playing (I play with both ends of the stick, gripping it at the middle-most ridge).

Purchased this set for my 11 year old son, which is taking advanced drum lessons. These have good quality mahogany wood shells, all stands are double braced, the Hi-hat and bass pedals have good quality chain drive. This is a complete set from throne to drumsticks. Great starter set! It will be hard to find a better set for the money anywhere! This set does come completly unassembled, but has a good website with a step by step video that makes assembly so easy that our son did most of the assembly his self. Arrived ahead of schedule in great shape!

Sound Percussion Double Boom Cymbal Stands - 2-pack Review

Sound Percussion Double Boom Cymbal Stands - 2-pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought these as an upgrade to my son's drum set. I tend to favor the Pearl equipment and had reviewed several of their stands when I happened to see these stands on Musician Friend. As a result of the low price, I had my doubts about the stands, but the reviews were glowing so I took the plunge. You should too, these are outstanding stands. When I opened the box and felt the quality of the stand, I was amazed. They have all of the features of the Pearl stands that I reviewed in the $150 range.
The finish is perfectly smooth and there is the right balance of weight to the stand. The boom completely hides in the stand body when you need to transport the stand. You can adjust the height via the extension and the three legs. You can adjust the tilt angle of the boom and of course you can rotate both the extension and boom 360 degrees (the boom has knurled sections, which improves the holding clamp's grip). The boom and cymbal holder tilts are both notched (a great benefit).
I am also impressed by the cymbal washer and spacer. My son used the Aquarian Cymbal Spring to allow the cymbals to ring better. We did not want to risk damaging the threads on the new SP stands so we used their cymbal washer and spacer. The cymbal have the same perfect ring.
In conclusion, these are awesome cymbal stands. They look great and function even better. You cannot go wrong with these and I cannot understand how anyone can rate them anything less than five stars.

Goldengate BT-001 Polished wood Bodhran Tipper Review

Goldengate BT-001 Polished wood Bodhran Tipper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So Jessica, I read your review and ordered one anyway. I figured for such a low price it probably wouldn't be the very finest tipper. Sorry to hear that yours had a flaw - I think it should not have passed quality control. Even at this price. Mine is OK although it has been turned from a piece of wood with an unsightly dark inclusion. It is otherwise very light hardwood and does have a polished surface.
It measures 8 & 3/16" in length. The bulbous ends measure 7/8" and the center grip part is just a tinch over 1/2". My groove is also off-center. It plays my bodhran just fine but doesn't have the finesse of the thin 9" tipper the top-end maker sent with the drum. So there ya go!

DW Drum Workshop SM770 Bass Drum Mounted Cymbal Arm w/L-Arm & Bracket Review

DW Drum Workshop SM770 Bass Drum Mounted Cymbal Arm w/L-Arm and Bracket
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had been looking for a Bass Drum Cymbal holder that was nicer than the old Ludwig models and the freely available Gibraltar model. The DW model is top notch.
The bass drum I was drilling it into had an unusually thick shell, so the screws included weren't long enough. I found matching screws at Home Depot with no problem, and I noticed that even the screws DW included were very nice quality, not cheap 2 cent screws you might expect.
One piece of advice, I guesstimated that the correct placement to screw into the bass drum was about halfway through. Now I am wishing I had mounted it a lot closer to the batter (beater) side of the bass drum. I looked at my friends vintage Rogers set and his mount was mounted very close to the batter side.
The only criticism I have is that it might look a little out of place on a vintage style set.

Very cute drum, but it broke after 24 hours. I purchased it for my toddler aged nephew and I don't know if it broke due to my nephew's use of it, or because of the grade of the material.

Wuhan China Cymbal 18 Inches Review

Wuhan China Cymbal 18 Inches
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been enjoying this cymbal a lot. Its LOUD so be careful. I use it primarily n the studio so I have to be careful where I put the microphones because it can drown out other cymbals easily. Great tone, color and brilliance. The sustain is perfect for my applications, its fast and short, so it wont linger around too long after the initial strike. I highly recommend these cymbals be it in 18", 16" and even 14"

Paco 5-Piece drum set in Wine Red Review

Paco 5-Piece drum set in Wine Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this kid as a second drumset for practicing with bands. I wanted something cheap to save money to refurbish my Pearls for gigging. First off you have to assemble everything. The stands are ok and will do the job. The kit itself looks good but the wrapping on the drums could of been done better. The heads that came with it are really bad so I would say get some good Remo heads for it. There is no muffler system on any of the toms so I use slips made for a turkish towel that helped with the over tunes. I also use a blanket in the bass drum to give it a solid sound. The snare really needs 2 good heads to really help it. After all that I did get a good sound but for $100 more I could of found a better kit and saved on the extras.

Percussion Plus 5 Piece Drum Set #PP3500 - Black Review

Percussion Plus 5 Piece Drum Set #PP3500 - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Percussion Plus is not a name that immediately conjures up images of professional quality music gear, however, I believe drummers would be pleasantly surprised at what they are getting out of this set for the money.
In this day of mass produced instruments where one factory can make parts for 2-3 or different companies, much of the hardware and production of Percussion Plus drum sets is strikingly similar to other beginning student line drum kits out there today. The shells, tom posts, bass drum spurs, shell covering, etc. etc. are very parallel to most of the other starter drumsets.
As a drummer and teacher I wasn't too excited to hear about these sets coming into the local music store. Now having seen them and having tuned a few, I feel that they're going to hold up well to the needs of beginning and intermediate drummers who are playing in school band, their parent's garage, and even getting into a few shows(cymbals excluded).
I'm still not too excited about the generic looking logo on the front bass drum head or the cheapo look of the snare shell, but the major issues of decent bearing edges, shells in-the-round, decent tuning range, hardware that works, and other issues have been solid up to the time of this writing.
One area I definitely feel could use some improvement is the pedals (both hi-hat and bass). They're functional and will work for a beginner, but they will be way lightweight for a drummer who progresses into jazz, and especially into advanced rock with double sixteenths etc. Some players would buy new gear like a hi-hat or double bass pedal (or a new set!) at this point in their progress, so maybe it isn't that big of a concern for someone just starting out. Also, the cymbals are lightweight and basically like playing on......well, they're not very inspiring to hit or to look at - but this is the same situation with most all student line drum kits (unless you're paying for a cymbal upgrade-Planet Z, B8, ZBT and so on).
If you are looking for a solid kit with hardware that won't fall apart and drums that should last the duration of a beginning/intermediate drummer, this kit would have my approval as equivalent to the sound and durability of other entry-level drumsets in its price range.

Sabian 18 Inch B8 Chinese Review

Sabian 18 Inch B8 Chinese
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My dad got me this for my birthday and i'll tell ya, its sounds pretty good. Its a bit kangy, but its great for beginners. Its almost "too explosive" though, its very loud, but it has that quality trashy sound you're looking for. When i put in ear plugs and then hit this thing (i use it inverted because i like the sound a little better) it sounds professional, so trashy, yet so awesome. 4 out of 5 because its a little too loud, almost hurts your ears, just wear ear plugs and this thing is as good as a hand hammered one.

Meinl Frame Drum Tipper Review

Meinl Frame Drum Tipper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This tipper is very attractive, with its dark reddish-brown finish. Mine is 9 3/4" in length and 3/8" wide at grip. It does have off-center turnings as pictured. These do not interfere with my grip, as I grasp the tipper in the center in order to be able to do end-to-end rolls. I may install some tennis racquet-handle tape to make the grip less slippery. I notice right off that while balance seems fine, there is relatively little weight at the ends, so that changes the throw of the stroke. Excellent to add to one's collection for experimentation and experience.
