(More customer reviews)I've been playing bass for twenty years. I've used a number of effects boards/pedals and I have to say I've been very impressed with the Zoom B2. The metal construction gives it a solid dependable feel when you take it out of the box. It just seems like it will survive on stage, unlike many of its plastic counterparts (including earlier zoom pedals).
It sounds awsome. I was not dissapointed. The effects are top notch. There are great presets that sound good as soon as you plug in. And of course there are many that are way over the top to the point I would consider them unusable, but if you dial back some of the more exotic effects you can get some very nice sounds. The amp/cabinet sims give a nice varity of tones and I like the compressor and chorus effects.
I was most skeptical of the built in drum machine and honestly I almost didn't buy the pedal because of this feature. It seemed so gimmicky and cheesey to put a drum machine in a bass pedal. I have to confess I love it. I dialed up a nice beat and just started jamming with it. It's a superb practice tool. The sounds and the beats are not cheesey at all.
I read other reviews from other forums and some people noted that its kind of hard to put it in bypass/tune mode. You have to hit both pedals at the same time. Unless you have very small feet (mine are size 9) or play barefoot, I can't see how this could be a problem.
So far I can't find anything I don't like about this pedal.

Zildjian 8 Inch ZXT Trashformer Review

(More customer reviews)I just got my drumset this year, and didn't realize quality cymbals were so expensive. So far, I've purchased used hi hats, a ride, and a crash. I wanted to extend my sound by adding a splash or a china cymbal, but I didn't want to spend money on both.
This cymbal allowed me to buy both. In a way, it is a splash cymbal with a short decay and lower tone. Yet it still has the slight sound of a china.
However, the real fun comes in when you piggyback it with other cymbals. If you put it on top, facing down, it actually lengthened the decay of my 16" crash, but not so much on the 18" ride. On the ride, though, it gives you a really low tone china effect when you strike it like a crash. That makes it easier on my ears. You can ping the cymbals normally, without much effect, but when you do a crash you can hear the trashformer working.
You can also put it upside down on top of another cymbal. This causes the trashformer to roll around, and the decay is about normal on the other cymbals. However, the cool part is that you can strike both cymbals at the same time or separately, either with the same stick or different sticks (depending on the size o fthe cymbal).
I'm going to have to pick up a second one just to have both a stand-alone splash/effect and one to roll around on top of the crash. I have to check out the other sizes first, though.
Note: the trashformers sort of look like the clock in Salvador Dali's painting-- there are 3 dips in the material. This makes the 8" a little hard to hit when it is a stand-alone effect cymbal, unless you have it close to you so you can see what part o f the cymbal you are striking. It's not a deal-breaker, though.

Zildjian 18-Inch ZHT China Cymbal Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this online on a lark. Normally I'd never buy any kind of instrument without hearing it first, but I broke my own rules....and kinda lucked out.
I've played and heard some amazing china crash cymbals that just explode when struck. Unfortunately they also run into the 250 - 350 dollar range. I've also played some cheapies that literally sound like a garbage can lid.
The Zildjian ZHT turns out to be a pretty good compromise between the two.
I've experimented between using it right side up (as pictured) and upside down. And also at various heights and angles. I've found that upside down and approx 30 degrees from a horizontal position, gives me the best sound. I positioned it rather low, just above my ride cymbal, overlapping 3 or 4 inches at the apex. I also used extra thick felts, top and bottom, and left a little bit of play in it so it's got some wiggle when hit.
There are a few things I've noticed. First, there is definately a sweet spot both in position and how hard it's struck. I won't bother explaining. You'll just have to experiment.
Secondly, if I'm listening either to a recording of me or through monitor headphones while playing, the china sounds WAY better from the non-playing position. I think that's true in general about drum kits, in that they're not meant to be heard sitting two feet behind them.
Finally, and this might just be my ears playing tricks, but the more I use this cymbal the better it sounds. I don't know if there is, as a rule, a breaking in period with cymbals. But I've had other cymbals that have seemed to get better with age. Who knows, maybe it's just wishful thinking.
Overall this is a very useful china cymbal for the budget minded drummer. Don't expect professional performance here. It's not going to sound like Pert's, Ulrich's, or Cobban's chinas....you get what you pay for. But it's definately NOT a piece of junk.

DigiTech RP50 Digital Amp Modeling Effect Unit Review

(More customer reviews)Digitech's RP-50 is a reasonably priced multi-effects unit tiny enough to take up very little space on a shelf or in a gig bag. It will provide more than enough bang for the buck for most guitar hobbyists. It contains multiple flanging, delay, chorus, autowah, and distortion effects. These go beyond the "bread and butter" stock sounds that many Korg and Zoom boxes provide, giving us truly useful and musical sounds. I'm particularly impressed with the various amplifier simulations; there are some beautiful clean Fender and Voxlike sounds hidden in here. There's also a gorgeous acoustic simulation that will strongly evoke a piezo pickup if you play without distortion. I'm also happy that the presets aren't oversaturated nonsense but actually highlight the varied sonic qualities of this multieffects package. Furthermore, the RP-50 can be used as both a headphone amplifier (perfect for when you don't want to wake up the house) and a direct input for recording. I've used the RP-50 for a lot of home recording since 2003, and the sound quality is very, very impressive even when plugged directly into my computer. In fact, I prefer the RP-50 for that use instead of using it to replace a pedal board. There's also an excellent tuner that's easier to use than some other pedal-based tuners I've tried.
Is this as good as more expensive models? Customization is, unfortunately, limited. Since you can't totally control all the parameters of each effect, exact synchronization of delays (for example) is impossible. The onboard EQ is limited to "Lows," "Mids," and "Highs" making it almost impossible to dial in nontraditional tones. There's a great-sounding drum machine included which (you guessed it) can't be reprogrammed. You can select a different drum pattern and choose a different speed, but that's it. You can't create your own patterns, and the drum speed isn't given to you in beats per minute (BPM). The selection pedals are very small and I would worry about stomping on them too hard on stage.
I've used the RP-50 since May 2003 and have never once had a problem with it. It's a valuable practice tool, sounds great, and is a terrific value. I'd buy it again if I had the chance!

Go one or two price categories up and you will still be amazed!
I have also Wuhan 14", 16" and 22" chinas and they are good addition to every all around drummers special sound cymbal selection.
My basic set is based on Paiste 2002 and Sabian Vault cymbals and Wuhan blends in nicely. And with my drums too... :) [...]

Wuhan China Cymbal 14 Inches Review

(More customer reviews)For those who need something trashy and raw for their kit, this cymbal is the answer to your prayers. The 12" china cymbal is a best buy because of it's nice round price, but personally, I think it's a little too small to produce a full, rich tone. The 18" and larger Wuhans are just too big to get a quick-decaying, yet delicate sound and feel from. The 16" is also a pretty good buy, and sounds/feels great. But this 14" has got be my favorite of them all. It's small enough to be "compact", and seems to produce the fullest sound out of all the chinas in the wuhan product line. What's more, the price is still very reasonable. But, I mean, come on...it's 15 bucks, there have to be some flaws to it, right? Unfortunately there are. Wuhan's, being as dark and explosive as they are, must be hand hammered to a thin little pulp of a cymbal. Therefore, the cymbal's thickness is actually very thin and fragile. Heavy usage will cause the cymbal to bend or crack within a matter of months. The catch 22 is that the cymbal's tone is very trashy and aggressive, which is suitable for very loud music. Therefore, you'll probably be using it often for the most abusive, heaviest types of drumming- the type of drumming that breaks cymbals. So yeah, there's my 2 cents. But I say that it's still a good buy, a you can always buy another without having to save up for a long time, and still get that great dark tone.
