You'll end up paying a good 500-600$ to find anything better.
This has to be the quietest multi-fx I've ever used. Even the fuzz-wah doesn't give background hiss cranked up on my system. Except the buttons, it's all metal and pretty solid.
You can't edit effect parameters with the computer.
The pedal distance is pretty short and there's almost no resistance to it.
As has been said elsewhere, the fretless has quite a lag to it. Not useless, just a lag to get used to.
For the money, no hiss, metal body, a good selection of flavors, basic (and effortless to get going) drums and a pedal that can be assigned to about every parameter I can find.
It's the best unit in this price range, period.

DigiTech RP500 Integrated-Effects Switching System Review

(More customer reviews)I play quite frequently in a church setting, where it's not feasible to hook up my amp, and I need to get a wide array of sounds, so I wanted something I plug in directly to the PA and get a great sound. I narrowed it down to this model, the BOSS ME-70, and the Line 6 POD 2.0 + foot controller. Here's why I went DigiTech:
1. Build Quality - This thing is a tank. It has a cast-metal chassis and vacuum-style footswitches, like on a stompbox. The BOSS unit has a metal chassis as well, but the footswitches are plastic.
2. Cost - $245 shipped for the Digitech, which comes with a power supply and Cubase LE4 recording suite for your computer. Pretty sweet! The BOSS unit is $300 and doesn't come with a power supply. I call shenanigans on that.
3. Customizability - While I liked the ease of use on the BOSS model, the thing I liked about the Digitech better is the preset system. You get 200 presets (100 factory and 100 user). The factory presets have some good sounds dialed in (though in no particular order it seems). You can also hook this up to your PC and adjust your presets from the provided X-Edit Software (which is quicker than using the menus on the unit). You can also download and save other patches, there are over 400 available on the Digitech site for free.
4. Stompbox-mode - Both units have modes to make them function like stompboxes.
5. Sound Quality - Don't get me wrong. Both of these units sound great, but I did not like the distortions I was getting out of the BOSS unit as much as the Digitech.
6. Ease of Use - It is very easy to use, pretty intuitive controls that are easy enough to figure out. After about a half-hour with the product and the manual I have it pretty much under control.

DigiTech RP1000? Integrated-Effects Switching System Review

(More customer reviews)Here is my review of this Multi-effects/amp-modeling/integrated switching system. I have been playing guitar for well over 10 years and have a decent amount of experience with Multi-effects units. I own the Digitech GNX4 and an earlier model BOSS unit with the COSM modeling. I have provided my rating for each individual aspect of the unit and also some comparison with the Boss GT 10, which I think is the only real competitor for this kind of unit and price point.
Effects: Almost all of the effects range from good to excellent. The only one that's actually bad is the harmonizer. Its almost useless. I have GNX4 from 5 years ago and the harmonizer on that is excellent. So this is definitely a step backwards. There is a way to get around it by adding a harmonizer pedal ($200+) into the stomp loop. But come on Digitech, why should I have spend that extra $200? FIX THE DAMN HARMONIZER PLEASE. Also, in the GNX4, you could run Whammy/Harmonizer and effects like chorus/flanger etc together. In the RP1000, you will have to chose between Whammy/Harmonizer and effects. I wish they kept this functionality from GNX4. From what I have seen/heard on You tube, Boss GT10 has better and more effects. I haven't tried the GT10 in person, but to me, quality of RP1000 effects is excellent. I doubt I am missing much (except the Harmonizer of course) (3.5 Stars)
Amp Modeling: This is where this unit shines. I have the GNX4 with the MFX Supermodels CD which is excellent. But I think the quality of the modeling is better in the RP1000. The models are more responsive to touch and sound great to excellent. I went through almost all the amp models. I can really hear the difference between a Fender, Marshall, Vox AC, Mesa etc. Really hard to fault. However, for all you tube amp fanatics out there, I don't think this will satisfy your ears 100%. Also, Boss COSM modeling is not that great compared to RP1000 modeling (4 stars)
Switching system: I have to give kudos to Digitech folks here. They have REALLY done their homework on this one. The 4CM method is pretty useful and allows you to integrate this unit in your existing setup. The stomp loop capability is great. I wonder why Digitech didn't put the amp channel change capability (like GT10)? That would have made this unit a God-send for me. I don't like the fact that if I want to use different channels on my amp, I have to use a different foot switch. Also, having 10 foot switches is way more convenient: 5 for Stompboxes, 5 for presents. Patch changes are quick (slight delay, not too noticeable) and stomp box on/off is instant. Boss GT10 switching system has the same features, but its just not as well laid-out/organized as the RP1000(4 stars if you use 4CM method, 5 stars otherwise)
Ease of use: I have been using the GNX4 for a few years and that was somewhat daunting in the beginning. With that experience, RP1000 is actually easier for me use. I think Digitech took out some of the complexities from the GNX4 and made it lot more user friendly and easily tweak-able in a live situation. I really like how easily you can bypass amp modeling, add in stomp loop, modify effects etc. on the go. X-edit is a decent piece of software as well, but you really don't need it as much as you did for GNX4. RP1000 is a lot easier to use in person. Overall, very well done indeed. Boss GT 10 seems very complicated to me, but again, for folks who have used GT-8 in the past might not be too concerned with that. For someone starting out fresh, you cant beat RP1000 for ease-of-use (5 stars)
Overall: 4.5 Stars. If you are in the market for a Multi-effects/Amp-Modeler unit, just close your eyes and get the RP1000. I don't think you can buy anything better at this price point. Sure, every one is raving about the Axe-FX, but I don't wanna spend 1.5k on an amp modeler. Besides, I like floor unit, not the rack mountable ones. Also, do your homework. Definitely check out Boss GT 10 and then make up your mind.

DigiTech RP255 Modeling Guitar Processor and USB Recording Interface Review

About the 20 second looper- 20 seconds might not seem like a lot of time, but considering the fact that you can dub-over trac after trac, it's more than enough time. All of the sounds it produces are "AMAZING". I'm doing things and creating sounds, and music I never dreamed of. I almost went with the RP155, but I'm glad I spent a little more and got the expression pedal, It's more than just a "volume" or "WAH" pedal. It's just a lot of fun. I have not begun to create my own music yet, but I will as soon as I install the cubase LE4 software. It's the best thing I ever bought for my guitar. I have a new found love for my giutar. I just can't say enough about it, but Digitech can. Go to Digtech.com- go to products, then RP255- and they have a nice little video "demo" on this and several other RP's. I did a lot of research befor my purchase, and this thing flat-out "BLOWS AWAY" the competition. More effects than the others- "USB" computer recording & editing- plus the looper. Try to find just the looper, not to mention all of the incredible effects this processor has on any other effects processor, it just can't be done, not even at twice the price! And I did some serious looking around.

(More customer reviews)I have the RP250 and RP350 effects pedals from Digitech. Simply the best available for the money in my opinion. I started playing bass recently and thought I'd check out this little BP-50 unit. I realised its aging a little now and newer Bass effects units are available, but for the price, I was really only looking to dip my toes in the water so to speak. Anyway there is a reasonable set of pre-made patches and the ability to modify them. Not as easy as with the RP250/350 where you can hook up to a computer and modify, but nonetheless it can be done if you havew a bit of spare time. I was perhaps most impressed with the lack of white noise passed through the unit. Very clear sounds with little noise evident with most patches. Sure, it could be better, but its old-ish now and not the latest and greatest technology on offer, but good for an intro bass effects unit for the newer bass player.

DigiTech RP50 Digital Amp Modeling Effect Unit Review

(More customer reviews)Digitech's RP-50 is a reasonably priced multi-effects unit tiny enough to take up very little space on a shelf or in a gig bag. It will provide more than enough bang for the buck for most guitar hobbyists. It contains multiple flanging, delay, chorus, autowah, and distortion effects. These go beyond the "bread and butter" stock sounds that many Korg and Zoom boxes provide, giving us truly useful and musical sounds. I'm particularly impressed with the various amplifier simulations; there are some beautiful clean Fender and Voxlike sounds hidden in here. There's also a gorgeous acoustic simulation that will strongly evoke a piezo pickup if you play without distortion. I'm also happy that the presets aren't oversaturated nonsense but actually highlight the varied sonic qualities of this multieffects package. Furthermore, the RP-50 can be used as both a headphone amplifier (perfect for when you don't want to wake up the house) and a direct input for recording. I've used the RP-50 for a lot of home recording since 2003, and the sound quality is very, very impressive even when plugged directly into my computer. In fact, I prefer the RP-50 for that use instead of using it to replace a pedal board. There's also an excellent tuner that's easier to use than some other pedal-based tuners I've tried.
Is this as good as more expensive models? Customization is, unfortunately, limited. Since you can't totally control all the parameters of each effect, exact synchronization of delays (for example) is impossible. The onboard EQ is limited to "Lows," "Mids," and "Highs" making it almost impossible to dial in nontraditional tones. There's a great-sounding drum machine included which (you guessed it) can't be reprogrammed. You can select a different drum pattern and choose a different speed, but that's it. You can't create your own patterns, and the drum speed isn't given to you in beats per minute (BPM). The selection pedals are very small and I would worry about stomping on them too hard on stage.
I've used the RP-50 since May 2003 and have never once had a problem with it. It's a valuable practice tool, sounds great, and is a terrific value. I'd buy it again if I had the chance!

I would refuse to play guitar without it, its that simple. you can pretty much create any sound you want and i would consider the whammy pedal just as important as my guitar. its easy to use, and extremely worth it, dont second guess here, put up the money trust me its worth it. Ive been playing with it for over a year now and even if all I had was $200 to my name, id still spend every last penny on this pedal.

DigiTech Jamman Looper and Phrase-Sampler Pedal Review

(More customer reviews)Sorry folks...the JamMan just isn't quite ready as a reliable, live performance tool. Using a high-capacity compact flash card (1GB), my loops were consistently corrupted after about the 4th or 5th overdub (especially on loops of faster tempos). I tried several brand new cards and even exchanged the JamMan for another one. Same problem. The thing is built like a tank. Unfortunately, the problem with corrupted loops means that it's just not dependable enough to use in live performances. Believe me, you don't want to find yourself in the middle of a live performance and suddenly have an extra 1 or 2 beats magically show up in the middle of your loop. Probably not a good impression on your audience. :-) I've been in contact with DigiTech but no fix yet. Let's hope they find a fix to this problem soon.
You can check out the discussion on Yahoo's JamMan discussion group, for more details and examples of the problem. I would strongly recommend holding off on getting a JamMan right now. Give DigiTech some time to work out the bugs first. I realize not many people have reported this problem but it's there. As more people experiment with it, the glitch is making itself known.
I give it 2 stars for effort. If you don't intend to loop more than 3 or 4 layers, on smaller-capacity compact flash cards, you're probably okay. Even so, I wouldn't risk it in a live performance though.
