I'm sorry to say, I did not like the sound. It was not easy to play and you could almost get the same effect from a 5 gallon bucket.

We bought this for my 10-year old son who is taking drum lessons, but returned it because the pads are too small and just isn't the real thing. Ordered a real drum set instead.

Rhythm Tech RT 7350 ProTorq Drum Key Review

Rhythm Tech RT 7350 ProTorq Drum Key
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this key on a whim. When it arrived the instructions were not clear, but I sat the dial to #2, loosened all of the lugs on my floor tom and went around my lugs using opposing lug patterns, and tested the first cut of tuning. Too loose and deep, so I increased the setting to #3 and repeated. Almost the sound I wanted, so I used a regular key and went an eighth turn using the same pattern. Perfect. I then started on the next largest tom, working back to the smallest. Using the #3 setting plus an eighth turn I got my toms 1/2 octave apart.
Next I worked on my snare drum, starting with the snare side, then the batter side. I used #4 on the batter side and #5 on the snare side, and managed to get the crisp, yet warm, sound I wanted. The bass drum came next - I set the batter side tension 1 notch below the resonant side and achieve a great tuning. From there I went back and set the resonant sides of each of my four toms one notch higher than the batter side and marveled at the perfect tuning I attained.
This is an easy device to use - with the lever facing you move it to the left, loosen all of your lugs, then tighten each starting with one or two. When the lever clicks and moves to the right position you have reached the torque setting. Test, increase a notch if necessary, and repeat until you get the sound you want. Set the resonant heads either one notch higher or lower to make sure the batter and resonant heads do not cancel each other (and to your desired sound), and you will have a perfectly tuned set.
I'll never go back to tuning by ear! You'll be amazed by the results if you tune with this key, and don't forget to write down your optimum settings.

Hansenfutz Futz Practice Pedal - Portable Practice Kick Pedal Review

Hansenfutz Futz Practice Pedal - Portable Practice Kick Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I travel a lot so I have a portable practice pad which straps to my knee that I take with me on trips but tapping your feet on a flat floor is really tough on the ankles and doesn't come anywhere near approximating the feel of a bass or hi hat pedal. So I was excited when I saw this product and immediately sent away for it. I have not been disappointed.
First I must say that it doesn't exactly duplicate the feeling of a real pedal, but I think that would be impossible for such a compact product to do. The first priority is portability. There are pads you can buy and attach to a real drum bass pedal, but it's huge and clunky, not something you can tote around in your bag. This pedal is light but sturdy and is capable of being adjusted to various angles and tension levels. And it beats tapping and stomping on the floor any day.
It works best on carpeted surfaces because it's got velcro on the bottom; if you use it on a smooth floor it will slide around a lot. Also, you need a screwdriver to adjust it. I wish this wasn't the case or that it at least came with small tools you can use on it. But once you get it the way you like it, you shouldn't need to adjust it ever again. It is fun to fool around with and try different settings. I love taking this on the road and being able to practice grooves more naturally and accurately. I recommend this for anyone who loves to play and practice even when they can't be behind their drum set.

Ludwig P-86 Snare Throw-Off Chrome Review

Ludwig P-86 Snare Throw-Off Chrome
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First things first, if your snare strainer is drilled 2 1/2 in apart, standard for Ludwig snares, this will pop right in. Otherwise you'll have to figure it out. It fit my 1964 Ludwig snare perfectly.
Not only is this a beautiful solid brute with its knurled wheel, chrome, and art deco engraving, it is also a *much*better* machine. It's the neatest snare strainer operation I've ever seen. Just flip that top tab towards you to loosen the snares, flip it back to tighten. You can easily do it while playing, even snap the snares in time, if that's your thing. My teacher broke a strainer doing that, but it wouldn't happen with the P-86.
It really dresses up your snare and works way better, pay the extra bucks. It is simply better than the P-85. It is worth it.

I am highly satisfied with the sound and playability of this drum. It is not a large drum, but does create a large sound. I have another drum (much larger) made by the same company, and a person can definately tell that these are high quality instruments. It looks cool too! When I first got it, I thought that even if it doesn't play well, it still looks cool! But I was very pleased to find that this instrument feels and sounds wonderfull!

Tycoon Percussion Klong Yaw Review

Tycoon Percussion Klong Yaw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've always wanted one of these Thai drums, at this price I took a shot. Besides the silly shape (it looks like a tromboune stuck to the bottom) this drum is great. solid dark wood, decent head and it comes with very thick rope which makes tuning a breeze. I only put one row of knots in and had to stop--it was way tight. It has an incredible high pitch tone and booming bass (even with a 9 inch head). I recommend it as a solo drum for a hand drummer who wants to cut through their whole drum circle. My circle is on notice--this drum is loud!

I'd always used the Hot Rods by Calato. But I'm very partial to my Regal Tip brushes. So one day I gave these Thai Sticks a go. I like 'em. The fan shaped ones are not my faves, though. After playing out with them, I've ended up preferring the straight sticks. If you want more volume and a louder "whack" sound, these fan sticks are for you.

Neil Peart (Rush) Limited Edition Poster Review

Neil Peart (Rush) Limited Edition Poster
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My husband is always one of the hardest people to shop for a gift. He has always been a HUGE Rush fan and Neil Peart is his favorite drummer. When I saw this poster I knew he would absolutely love it. He hung it over his drum set and it looks fantastic. The frame size is 36X26 which would have been nice to have listed in the description because it is not a super common size, and the shipping took longer than expected. I ordered it 2 weeks before Christmas and it didn't make it until after. But it was a great belated gift nonetheless. 5 stars on the product, 3 stars on the shipping delay.

Garifuna Drum Method DVD Review

Garifuna Drum Method DVD
Average Reviews:

Traditional Garifuna Drumming Explained.
This DVD is the "bible" on Garifuna Drum beats and how to play them.
The best kept secret about this DVD is it's bonus music video tracks featuring the Garifuna Collective with Andy Palacio and Paul Nabor.
During the development of the project, the Chicago Parks Department music program utilized intermediate drafts for drumming instruction with great success, and the earlier versions were also used in various college and university-level Caribbean Studies workshops. "For all drummers and enthusiasts of Afro-Latin music, this DVD is a must own," said Aaron Cohen, associate editor of Downbeat Magazine.
The DVD consists of 100 minutes of training and musical video in a six panel photographic digipak. Also included are two songs by the traditional acoustic Garifuna band Wamalali, and two songs by Paul Nabor/Andy Palacio and the Garifuna Collective recorded at Chicago's Millennium Park, as well as a collaborative & contemporary world music single Nanigi .

Vic Firth Signature Series -- Jojo Mayer Review

Vic Firth Signature Series -- Jojo Mayer
Average Reviews:

These sticks are very nice! They're quite similar to your standard 5A pitch-paired sticks, but they're just a little bit shorter. Playing these sticks with the blunt side out gives you a tremendous, focused and powerful stroke, with a nice beefy feel. Meanwhile, the tapered tip side provides a gracefully smooth and controllable response... A very versatile pair of sticks indeed!
You just can't beat these for the price, so I bought two pairs... I should have bought a dozen!!! Maybe I will if these break any time soon....
Highly recommend these sticks!!!

Tycoon Percussion Dancing Drum Series 9 Inch Djembe Review

Tycoon Percussion Dancing Drum Series 9 Inch Djembe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My new favorite drum. Period. I have a conga set, a couple doumbeks, some pan-drums, and a really cool 14" djembe but none compare to this guy. I've been a percussionist for over 10 years and when I got my tax return I bought a few drums and I am completely blown away by this guy.
This thing is almost bomb-proof too. Very solid and heavy, probably a 1" thick wood core.
The range of sounds, and it's volume is what blew me away though. This is absolutely professional quality. The tones are much richer and the head is much more responsive than my drums that cost three-times more. I couldn't believe the sound coming from a somewhat smaller sized djembe.
If you are considering this djembe, stop it, just get it. I'd bet my drum collection this one quickly becomes your favorite. If you are a beginner, get it, this djembe will get you hooked.
