Processor has trouble registering beats when using three or more in a rhythm pattern. If you hit the pads harder this is not a problem so it sort of forces you to concentrate. Heavier sticks might help. It does not have that many preprogrammed acoustics kits but they are programmable. Pads are small so this is not meant for a young child. The processor works okay and is not going to impress you but for the price range what are you going to do.
If Simmons put $50 more dollars into this it would be awesome. At two fifty for a amateur it is worth wild. I would compare it to an economical drum pad and not a toy. The Rolland alternative is about two times more and it would not be worth it to me. If you need a foot pedal/switch "Hosa" makes one that you can change the polarity of it for about 30 dollars with shipping but I have not tried one yet. The manual is just a quick start guide and is the only thing available at the time of this post. The drum pad is not that hard to figure out though.

(More customer reviews)This toy and I never quite got a long. The games seemed to be either very simple or too hard. They weren't good at ramping your skills. I didn't play on it hard or too often and after a few months it had problems with the power cord. We solved this for a while with tape but then that stopped working too.
There's a large variety of sounds but many of them you don't want to listen too.
Anyway I've switched to hitting pans, cups, and pieces of wood. It sounds better.

It's a little difficult to follow the convoluted UI, but after working with it for a few months and going over the manual many times, I understand the logic of why they did what they did, but ultimately it's a pretty bad and unintuitive layout. That aside, the playability is what is of primary importance to me and it shines in that area. Very flexible and controllable. I'm using the Yamaha hi-hat trigger pedal and a Roland kick drum trigger which both work flawlessly. Though don't expect to use a Roland hi-hat trigger pedal with this unit as it won't work. Connectivity with my sequencer (protools) is flawless. Good drivers and phone support is good. You can quickly get in contact with a knowledgeable product specialist which I really value.

Fender Starcaster TT-1 Electronic Table-Top Drum Kit Review

(More customer reviews)This is really strange, because I bought this unit on sale from another vendor ($129) and like other reviewers state it turns off at higher volumes but I kept it anyways and here's why.
As a beginner drum student, I wasn't ready to invest in a drum set so I went with this tabletop model at a rock bottom price, comparing it to 5 other brands. My hope was that if I could get the knack of playing it after a few months, then I would consider upgrading to a full kit and hopefully sell it at an online auction for a fair price.
The first time I played along with one of the learning songs, I turned up the volume and the entire unit shut off! After some investigating, it turns out that if I turn the bass OFF, I can use it beyond a 4 volume, maybe up to a 6 on a good day. But with that bass on, the entire unit will always shut down whenever it reaches a 3 or 4 depending on how hard I am hitting the pads.
In the end, because of storage considerations and the fact that it does have a student mode, metronome and other features I have elected to keep it, deal with its defect and play it at low volume. I also took into account that just one snare practice pad runs around $20 or so, and a metronome another $25.
With all those reasons combined, I figured that it's still a good value for practice reasons, because returning it and finding another model for the same price or even a little more was not an option at the time of purchase.
In reading these reviews it seems that its a common defect, so buyer beware. I would still take my chance again and see if you end up with one that doesn't have this problem because it is a fabulous value.

Casio LD-80 Touch-Sensitive Digital Drums with Guide Lights and AD-12 AC Adapter Review

(More customer reviews)The nice features are the seven velocity sensitive drum pads which will transmit MIDI data to control other MIDI drum kits. Other than that the LD-80 does not have much to offer the serious musician.
The drum and synth samples are very grainy 8-bit sounding samples and there is a lot of noise on the signal. It sounds more like an early 80s digitial drum machine than real drums. Infact some of the sounds seem to be lifted directly from the famous Casio RZ-1 drum machine from the days when Casio still made professional music equipment. The machine has some bigger problems than mediocre sounds. For starters the pedal inputs are not velocity sensitive which means sounds played on the pedals will sound out of place with the more expressive sounds played on the pads.
Worse than this is the fact that the machine has very poorly implimented MIDI capabilities. There's no excuse for this as the machine has a good enough control panel to have been able to access more MIDI features so adding them would not have increased the cost. If you plan to use the LD-80 as a drum machine in your MIDI rig you will be annoyed to discover that the machine responds to MIDI data on all 16 channels. You cannot disable the channels you do not wish the machine to respond to. Channels 1-9 play General MIDI patches, Channel 10 plays a General MIDI mapped drum kit and channels 11 to 16 play different mapped drum kits including sounds not accessable by the pads or even mentioned in the manual. While it may sound like a bonus feature not covered in the manual that your LD-80 will also function as a synth module you will soon discover that with only 16 voices you will max out the polyphony pretty quickly in even a modest MIDI sequence. The fact that channels cannot be disabled on the LD-80 pretty much eliminate's it's usefullness as a MIDI drum machine and synth module for the serious musician who employ other MIDI synths in their rig. I was very disappointed with this. Either the engineers who designed this product were too lazy to impliment proper MIDI capabilities or they just no longer understand what musicians need in a MIDI instrument.
One thing that is rather nice about the LD-80 is the learning system built into it to help non-drummers learn to drum. A selection of auto-rythmes with auto-accompanyment as well as a few songs that the novice can drum along to in time with the syncronized light flashes on the pads makes practicing a bit more fun. Unfortunately poor implimentation of MIDI prevents these auto-rythmes from being useful for much else as you cannot start, stop, or sync the rythmes from MIDI.
It is cheaper than its closest competitor, the Yamaha DD-55, but if you're looking for a drum machine and not just a MIDI percussion controller then you'd probably do well to look elsewhere. If all you want is a set of pads to control other MIDI drum machines or a cheap kit for your kids to learn to drum on (the headphones are great for this) then the Casio LD-80 will fit the bill nicely.
Saddly what could have been a great product has been reduced to a somewhat okay product due to Casio's lack of vision.

With apologies to drummers everywhere, we didn't think we could face the ruckus of a full real drum set being played inside the house. So we talked her into a digital drum set. We have been very happy with this unit. The sound is very realistic and she loves experimenting with the different drum and percussion sounds available. It has been a real hit with the whole family. Since the unit has a volume knob, we can enjoy listening to her play without it being too loud. And there is a headphone jack for private practices. I don't have experience with other electronic drum sets, but this feels like a solid, high quality product.

(More customer reviews)I bought this electric drumset for my 14 year old son for a Christmas present. If I had time to return it, I would have. It's smaller than what the picture seems to suggest. It can sit in a normal adult lap barely hanging off each side, if any at all. It did not come with the AC adaptor as the item description listed it did. It makes several sounds which can be entertaining for any age group. But for the purposes of playing the drums, not at all useful. You have to hit the pads rather hard and they are closer together considering the whole thing is small. Don't waste your money on this set if it's for an older child wanting to learn to play the drums.
