(More customer reviews)I bought this mic as a decent alternative to my crappy vocal mic's. I needed a mic for recording and some live performances, but primarily for instrument use. I heard about this mic as a good one modeled after the famous SM57 but at a fraction of the price.
I recorded a quick acoustic thing as a sample for a dance performance and when I listened to it play back on giant speakers, I was literally blown away by the lack of static sound I heard. I did very little post recording work, just some levels to make everything louder and about the same, but no noise canceling and it turned out amazing.
I would absolutely recommend this mic for someone that wants good to great sound but with a limited budget. I plan on buying more, maybe even the vocal mic too.

MXL V63M Condenser Studio Microphone Review

(More customer reviews)I've used a pair of these in stereo for drum overheads for several recordings. I've also used the V63M as a vocal mic depending on the style of song. There's definitely some high-end nastiness to be aware of when placing these mics, but even if it cuts through, a lil Hi Freq EQ can clean them up well. For the money, you'll be hard pressed to find a better mic.
They can be a bit inconsistent coming out of whatever Chinese factory in which they're constructed -- as has been said about Gibson guitars, there's Monday guitars and there's Friday guitars. Be sure to a/b them both with each other and other mics if you use them as a stereo pair. To hear them as drum overhead mics, seek out The Exeter Popes 'Snow, Mountain, Geisha' or Greg Hoy 'Spouses Of The Lowly'. I utilized a pair plus kick and snare to get the drum sounds on both of these recordings.

(More customer reviews)I have had this mic now for about 3 months and have done a number of recordings of drums, vocals and acoustic guitar and mandolin with it. Due to its design, it is obviously not good for live performances with lots of electric and amplified instruments, but in a studio session where you isolate individual instruments, it is the best microphone I have ever used. It reproduces the sound "going in" very accurately, over an impressively large range of frequencies, without any colorations at all.
Specifically I used it for an overhead mic for a drumset, and both the cymbals and toms were nicely picked up. For vocals, it is best to sing into it at a distance of 0.5 - 2 feet, depending on how powerful the respective voice is. The same holds true for acoustic instruments like guitars and mandolin. It is a spectacular experience to play an acoustic guitar into this microphone and listen to the PA output or monitor. A friend of mine likened it to "being able to stick your head into the body of the guitar".
Very highly recommended.

Shure SM57-LC Cardioid Dynamic Microphone Review

(More customer reviews)This is a great all-purpose dynamic microphone for everything from amps and instruments to vocals, and it's far and away one of the best mics out there in terms of durability (they don't call them the industry workhorses for nothing)/sound/value. This'll blow the socks off those $30 mics.
But what's the difference between the SM-57 and the SM-58? Besides the grill, the main difference is Frequency response. Take a look at the charts in the manuals for both, and you'll note that in the slice of spectrum normally associated with the human voice, there's a boost with the SM-58. This may make your voice sparkle a little more on the SM-58, but if you were planning on possibly micing anything else, it's going to also have a boost in the same range, distorting the original sound slightly.
Plus, if you've got a decent equalizer, you can probably achieve close to the same vocal sound the SM-58 provides with just a little tweaking after the fact.
So, if you plan on using your mic for anything beyond singing, I'd suggest the SM-57 over the SM-58 (even though you may not look as cool holding it). And I'd definitely recommend this little baby over those cheaper models. Unless you need a condensor mic, this is the way to go.

Shure SM57 Microphone Review

If you are new to the wide-world of audio recording, this mic should be the first mic in your mic box. Get one of thee NOW if you haven't already. (I just paid $65 for mine here, used). It is a great mic for recording pretty much anything and will produce an acceptable sound. It is also great for live use as well. I have been into audio engineering as a professional for over 20 years (as well being a musician) and played hundreds of shows, been in dozens of studios, and have home-recorded for a long time. You know what microphone I run into more than any other? The Shure SM57. It has been used in the studio and on stages for decades- to mic up guitar cabs, drums, and pianos among other things. I have seen a lot of metal/thrash/punk bands use them for vocal mics. Yet they are subtle enough where I have seen people record acoustics guitars with great success. There is a reason for that- while yes, there are better sounding mics out there, when you buy a Shure SM57 ($100 new), you know EXACTLY what it is going to sound like and that the sound is unbeatable for the money. They are virtually indestructible as well, and when they do crap out (IF they do- I have a few that have been dropped numerous times, one took a beer bath, general abuse, and they still worked great) you can usually just get a new capsule for them for around $30-40, solder it in and BAM! it's as good as new.
Yes, there are other mics out there for the same money that sound as good (the Audix i5 comes to mind), and while they have their place and some have the same sound quality as a SM57, I highly urge anyone thinking of getting into audio engineering as more than a hobby start out with a 57. Why? Because it is the mic that ALL other

ProLine MS112 Desk Boom Mic Stand Review

(More customer reviews)This is a perfectly adequate Boom Mic Stand suitable for use on a desk or for drum/amp mic'ing. I would not characterize it as "heavy duty" but for light to moderate use, it should be sufficient. The base weight is roughly 6 pounds providing pretty good stability. The base also has felt pads on the four corners to protect the surface of whatever you place it on. The boom has about 9" of travel and the boom height starts at 7" and can be adjusted up another 6" giving a total height of about 13". The ProLine MS112BK is a good value but probably not the best choice for rough usage.

Audix Fusion 15 Mic Review

(More customer reviews)The Fusion 15's (I bought 2) are proving to be a great value for the money. If you shop around like I did, you can get them for $70 each. Having a $70 mic for overheads on drum recording may sound like a real ham 'n egg operation, but these mics are really doing the job. You need to work on placement, just like with much more expensive mics, but once you've got right spot, the F-15's pick up everything - clearly. The gain on the board need not be cranked in order to pick up the crash cymbals correctly. With almost no efects added, the F-15 pick up the attack and decay of all cymbals, with again, amazing clarity. They also pick up, and add nicely to, the sound of the "drums" in your mix. You can go buy more expensive mics, but how much better they will sound, given the home recording setup, will not justify their purchase. Save your money - buy these. You can use the savings to buy more gear, or maybe some cold beer to sip while you listen to your great sounding tracks.

(More customer reviews)This entire package is garbage. The headphones have no bass. I plugged my bass guitar into this thing and the headphones would crackle with every note played. The microphone does plug in through XLR, but vocals come out ugly sounding. The interface itself, while simple to use, gives me terrible latency when using adobe audition 3.0, to where you cant even record vocals because your ears are confused. and that leads me to using the audacity software that comes with it(which there are no instructions for) and im unable to master my vocals. So in short, this entire bundle sucks, and i wouldnt recommend it to anyone.
