Percussion Plus Percussion Kit Review

Percussion Plus Percussion Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Glockenspiel set is amazing! I was mostly buying it so I wouldn't have to keep borrowing my church's set to practice my music for a Harry Potter musical called The Final Battle, so the fact that it was cheaper than most sets just made me happy. I also like the fact that it comes with a carrying case, so toting it to Florida for the actual musical will be easy as pie. The straps do tend to cut into your shoulders a little bit, but that doesn't really bother me. I had no use for the drum pad or drum sticks, so I gave those to a friend of mine, and he says it is one of the best he has used. The Glockenspiel sounds really great, and is just what I was looking for. The only draw back for me at the beginning was that since the stand is kind of like a camera tripod, it kind of wobbles when you hit the higher notes, but you get used to it quickly. This is also really good for beginners since it has the key names on each bar. I can't wait to start writing my own music with this glokenspiel!!!

Gibraltar SC-BDHG Bass Drum Hoop Guard 2/Pack Review

Gibraltar SC-BDHG Bass Drum Hoop Guard 2/Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought a used drum set and it came with this ugly metal hoop clamp which did not look aesthetically pleasing and it mounted with a screw! I took that ugly clamp off and cleaned the area. I was actually looking for one of those Tama hoop savers when I came across this Gibraltar unit. The Tama piece is nothing more than a thick sticker and only protects a small amount of the flat side of the hoop. It's common sense that the part of the hoop that takes the most abuse will be the edge. This drum hoop guard solves that problem because it goes slightly over the edge of the hoop.
I like this design because it is rubber and provides cushioning from any vibration or squeak that the pedal contact with the hoop might cause.
I have a black lacquered hoop and this unit matches perfectly. It will of course look good with any other color as it is the perfect size and disappears under the pedal.
Just make sure that before you install it, you clean the hoop thoroughly to remove any dirt or any type of wax residue otherwise the adhesive will not stick properly. What I did was cleaned the area, placed the hoop guard on and held it tightly for a minute. So far, it has not come off. The adhesive is not the strongest so the cleaning is important and once you install it, don't try to take it off and try to reposition it as the adhesive will go away.
The unit is cheap protection and a good value at the price. Gibraltar makes another model if you want to use it with a metal hoop. This unit is for wood hoops.
EDIT: The adhesive on the bottom of the product is not very sticky. After repeated attachment/reattachment of the pedal, the hoop guard will come off. Right now, my hoop guard is just sitting on the hoop and my pedal is holding it there. If I take the pedal off, the hoop guard will fall off. I wish the adhesive was much stronger but you can always use your own adhesive.

Remo Pinstripe PrePak Drumheads with Coated Snare Head Review

Remo Pinstripe PrePak Drumheads with Coated Snare Head
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Sweet. Remo is second to none when it comes to drumheads - that's the first thing you need to know. From the Kevlar WhiteMax to the oil-filled pinstripes you can always find something in your size, tone, and price range. This is one of my favorite sets when paired with tone rings, and then I tune them until I can get a nice soft yet punchy attack, with a beautiful warm decay (I'll tune down my bottom head to heighten the effect). Very versatile when covering multiple genres. Now, on to the coated snare head.
I personally love the simplicity of a coated Powerstroke-3. I love how they are built to minimize overtones, and I find them very responsive at all stick heights. Most likely what your school snares have on them, though the coating has long since been beaten off from years of use. I wonder if anyone has thought to use Amazon reviews as a blog - aside from me thinking about it right now...

Evans Torque Drum Key Review

Evans Torque Drum Key
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I generally use the Rhythm Tech Memo Key (ASIN B0002E2EOE) to tune my heads, but this one is as good and has a feature I like more than the Rhythm Tech model - this tuning key clicks and disengages when the dialed-in torque is attained whereas the Rhythm Tech model requires you to reset a lever.
It is simple to use. All you do is hand tighten your lugs, set the dial on the key to an initial setting, then go around your drum in the standard opposing tightening pattern. Test, and increase the dial setting until you get the sound you want. Once you do achieve the sound I strongly recommend that you write the settings down so you can quickly dial in your preferred tuning the next time you tune your drums or change heads.
A few things to consider: tuning involves more than just the batter side heads, which is especially true in the case of snare drums. Unless you are seeking a flat sound, do not tune the resonant heads to the same torque as the batter side heads, else the heads will cancel each other out because they will be vibrating at the same frequency. Also, make sure your lugs are lightly oiled so that each has uniform resistance or the torque settings will be inaccurate. Finally, if you cannot get the sound you are looking for between setting increments (i.e., between dial setting #3 and #4), use a standard key and try one eigth turn increments.
Regardless of whether you play as a hobby or professionally, this key is an amazing tool that will allow you to quickly and easily change the dynamics of your drums.

Aquarian Drumheads RSM22BK Regulator Black 22-inch Bass Drum Head, gloss black Review

Aquarian Drumheads RSM22BK Regulator Black 22-inch Bass Drum Head, gloss black
Average Reviews:

To be honest I did not hear any difference with putting this head on. It doesn't prevent me from having to place something inside the bass drum, miked or not.
The good point is that the hole is pre cut and the black gloss prevent the audience to see the blanket / pillow / mike mess inside. So I do not hear, but I see a difference.

Evans ST Dry Drumhead, 14 Inch Review

Evans ST Dry Drumhead, 14 Inch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been playing drums for over 20 years and have tried many different snare heads. This one has nice tonality and absolutely no overtones! It is focused and dry which allows you to enjoy the clean sound without all those pesky sustained tones that muddle the snap. If you like obnoxious overtones and sustained resonances, this is definitely not for you. If you want a tight dry and powerful sounding head, get this. No muffling, o-rings, or duct tape required.

Aquarian Drumheads PF14 Performance-2 14-inch Tom Tom Drum Head Review

Aquarian Drumheads PF14 Performance-2 14-inch Tom Tom Drum Head
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been playing drums off and on now for 10-12 years now. I currently own a mapex pro m series with maple shells. I've always been switching around from Evans clear 2ply heads, remo clear pinstripe 2plys, and Evans coated (white) 2ply heads.
whenever I'd be at a music store playing a dw or pacific kit I'd fall in love with the heads that had the dampening ring built into them. And I could never get the right tone with all my other heads, I consider myself rather good at tuning kits.
So I found these aquarian heads, sure you could just buy the dw heads but they're overpriced because it says dw on the package. Got a 10,12, and 14" head for my toms, tuned them up and they sounded perfect!
Now I play in a band and I play percussion and I let the drummer use my kit because its much nicer than his. The gigs sound great, just need to keep up on tuning.

Evans Power Center Reverse Dot Drumhead, 14 Inch Review

Evans Power Center Reverse Dot Drumhead, 14 Inch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used this head on my Ludwig Acrolite 14" Snare for about 5 years now with exceptional results. The REVERSE POWER dot is on the underside of the head allowing for intricate brush work. Don't be afraid to crank it down to get that "CRACK" sound! Very, very durable head. If you're looking for a more sensitive feel then look elsewhere. This head is very versatile (from gospel, jazz, country, rock etc...). I'm a heavy hitter. This head performs well under extreme tension. Pick up an Evans 300 Hazy and you're set!

The rings arrived about a day or 2 earlier than scheduled. They pretty much do their job which is to cancel out resonance and to dampen the sound of the drum being played.
Would highly recommend.

Evans EC Reverse Dot Snare Drumhead, 14 Inch Review

Evans EC Reverse Dot Snare Drumhead, 14 Inch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Great head, good sound and thick, durable head for heavy hitters.
I had the stock remo coated head on my PDP Snare (14x5), for about a week and it tore right through the middle. Looked like a piece of paper when I took it off.
Also on the old head it was way to snappy for me, almost annoying.
Once I got this head on and tuned up, it brought the level down, but still crisp and high, I am in love with this head so far (about 2 weeks in).
I read this other guys review and was a little skeptical, because "he knows how to tune a snare". But being a thicker head and a fan of Evans I gave it a try.
Once I got it on a started tuning it, it did sound a little low, but I kept stretching and tuning and it sounds great now. I felt like I tuned it a little high, but it sounds nothing like a tom at all.
I just wanted to throw that out there, because apparently the guy didn't know what he was doing. And re-assure people that this is a great sounding head, if you're looking for a really snappy sound, I probably would find a different one, but if you want a nice crisp snare that's not over the top check this head out.
Especially if you're a hard hitter, since this is thicker than most heads.

Evans Hydraulic Glass Drumhead, 16 Inch Review

Evans Hydraulic Glass Drumhead, 16 Inch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one of the most interesting, different heads I've used. It appears to be clear at first glance, but actually it has several "bubbles" all over the surface. I must clarify, they are not actual bubbles that are raised at all; the surface is smooth as any drumhead. There are just some air pockets in the oil layer between the plies, which is intentional and is not a defect. Weird, but not a bad thing. The sound? Warm, with short sustain. A Remo Diplomat this is most definitely not. Almost a "thick" sound, IMO. Very 70's arena rock. Though I like the sound, I found it was a bit hard to get a definite tuning pitch. On the upside, however, I found that I didn't need to use Moongels, O-Rings, or any other dampener on my it. Another plus: it is as tough as nails. I've beat the crap out of this head and it still sounds the same as day one. Jazzers should stay away, but for rock, blues, and bar band drummers, this head is great.

Evans EMAD 5-Piece Drumhead Pack Review

Evans EMAD 5-Piece Drumhead Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Amazing! I was looking for a low cost but high quality head pack to replace the factory heads on my set. These totaly transformed the sound of it, and i would recomend them for players who play rock or related genres. The snare rings a little so i got some of that moongel stuff and the ring went away. The toms aren't wonderful, but they certainly dont sound like crap. (i probably dont have them tuned right, so thats why) The bass head is the best part, and it comes with dampening rings so you can adjust how low you want it to sound. I would reccomend that you tune the head just past the wrincle point to get the most punchy sound. I like it that way, but if you dont just tune them higher. I use these mostly for recording, but i have used them on-stage a few times. great buy, especially for the money.
