I have been using this stuff for years... works really well for adjusting that annoying "ringing" sound that you can't quite get rid of by tuning adjustments. Highly recommended.

Gibraltar SC-BDHG Bass Drum Hoop Guard 2/Pack Review

Gibraltar SC-BDHG Bass Drum Hoop Guard 2/Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought a used drum set and it came with this ugly metal hoop clamp which did not look aesthetically pleasing and it mounted with a screw! I took that ugly clamp off and cleaned the area. I was actually looking for one of those Tama hoop savers when I came across this Gibraltar unit. The Tama piece is nothing more than a thick sticker and only protects a small amount of the flat side of the hoop. It's common sense that the part of the hoop that takes the most abuse will be the edge. This drum hoop guard solves that problem because it goes slightly over the edge of the hoop.
I like this design because it is rubber and provides cushioning from any vibration or squeak that the pedal contact with the hoop might cause.
I have a black lacquered hoop and this unit matches perfectly. It will of course look good with any other color as it is the perfect size and disappears under the pedal.
Just make sure that before you install it, you clean the hoop thoroughly to remove any dirt or any type of wax residue otherwise the adhesive will not stick properly. What I did was cleaned the area, placed the hoop guard on and held it tightly for a minute. So far, it has not come off. The adhesive is not the strongest so the cleaning is important and once you install it, don't try to take it off and try to reposition it as the adhesive will go away.
The unit is cheap protection and a good value at the price. Gibraltar makes another model if you want to use it with a metal hoop. This unit is for wood hoops.
EDIT: The adhesive on the bottom of the product is not very sticky. After repeated attachment/reattachment of the pedal, the hoop guard will come off. Right now, my hoop guard is just sitting on the hoop and my pedal is holding it there. If I take the pedal off, the hoop guard will fall off. I wish the adhesive was much stronger but you can always use your own adhesive.

Rhythm Tech RT 7350 ProTorq Drum Key Review

Rhythm Tech RT 7350 ProTorq Drum Key
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this key on a whim. When it arrived the instructions were not clear, but I sat the dial to #2, loosened all of the lugs on my floor tom and went around my lugs using opposing lug patterns, and tested the first cut of tuning. Too loose and deep, so I increased the setting to #3 and repeated. Almost the sound I wanted, so I used a regular key and went an eighth turn using the same pattern. Perfect. I then started on the next largest tom, working back to the smallest. Using the #3 setting plus an eighth turn I got my toms 1/2 octave apart.
Next I worked on my snare drum, starting with the snare side, then the batter side. I used #4 on the batter side and #5 on the snare side, and managed to get the crisp, yet warm, sound I wanted. The bass drum came next - I set the batter side tension 1 notch below the resonant side and achieve a great tuning. From there I went back and set the resonant sides of each of my four toms one notch higher than the batter side and marveled at the perfect tuning I attained.
This is an easy device to use - with the lever facing you move it to the left, loosen all of your lugs, then tighten each starting with one or two. When the lever clicks and moves to the right position you have reached the torque setting. Test, increase a notch if necessary, and repeat until you get the sound you want. Set the resonant heads either one notch higher or lower to make sure the batter and resonant heads do not cancel each other (and to your desired sound), and you will have a perfectly tuned set.
I'll never go back to tuning by ear! You'll be amazed by the results if you tune with this key, and don't forget to write down your optimum settings.

Remo Pinstripe PrePak Drumheads with Coated Snare Head Review

Remo Pinstripe PrePak Drumheads with Coated Snare Head
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Sweet. Remo is second to none when it comes to drumheads - that's the first thing you need to know. From the Kevlar WhiteMax to the oil-filled pinstripes you can always find something in your size, tone, and price range. This is one of my favorite sets when paired with tone rings, and then I tune them until I can get a nice soft yet punchy attack, with a beautiful warm decay (I'll tune down my bottom head to heighten the effect). Very versatile when covering multiple genres. Now, on to the coated snare head.
I personally love the simplicity of a coated Powerstroke-3. I love how they are built to minimize overtones, and I find them very responsive at all stick heights. Most likely what your school snares have on them, though the coating has long since been beaten off from years of use. I wonder if anyone has thought to use Amazon reviews as a blog - aside from me thinking about it right now...

Evans Torque Drum Key Review

Evans Torque Drum Key
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I generally use the Rhythm Tech Memo Key (ASIN B0002E2EOE) to tune my heads, but this one is as good and has a feature I like more than the Rhythm Tech model - this tuning key clicks and disengages when the dialed-in torque is attained whereas the Rhythm Tech model requires you to reset a lever.
It is simple to use. All you do is hand tighten your lugs, set the dial on the key to an initial setting, then go around your drum in the standard opposing tightening pattern. Test, and increase the dial setting until you get the sound you want. Once you do achieve the sound I strongly recommend that you write the settings down so you can quickly dial in your preferred tuning the next time you tune your drums or change heads.
A few things to consider: tuning involves more than just the batter side heads, which is especially true in the case of snare drums. Unless you are seeking a flat sound, do not tune the resonant heads to the same torque as the batter side heads, else the heads will cancel each other out because they will be vibrating at the same frequency. Also, make sure your lugs are lightly oiled so that each has uniform resistance or the torque settings will be inaccurate. Finally, if you cannot get the sound you are looking for between setting increments (i.e., between dial setting #3 and #4), use a standard key and try one eigth turn increments.
Regardless of whether you play as a hobby or professionally, this key is an amazing tool that will allow you to quickly and easily change the dynamics of your drums.

Evans ST Dry Drumhead, 14 Inch Review

Evans ST Dry Drumhead, 14 Inch
Average Reviews:

I have been playing drums for over 20 years and have tried many different snare heads. This one has nice tonality and absolutely no overtones! It is focused and dry which allows you to enjoy the clean sound without all those pesky sustained tones that muddle the snap. If you like obnoxious overtones and sustained resonances, this is definitely not for you. If you want a tight dry and powerful sounding head, get this. No muffling, o-rings, or duct tape required.

Drumdial Drum Tuner Review

Drumdial Drum Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you've ever been frustrated with your drum tuning, the drum dial is for you! It seems like whenever you try to get solid advice on tuning your drums, you get told that "it depends on what YOU want them to sound like" or "drum tuning is an art, not a science". Well, with the drum dial, it IS a science so you can get your drums to sound exactly like you want them to, every time you tune. The drum dial measures the tension of the drumhead at each lug so by getting the tension near each lug at the same drum dial number, your drum is in tune with itself. It's the same thing you're trying to do with the old-fashioned tapping method but you're using your eyes on the dial, instead of your ears. Then, it's just a matter of deciding what tone you like. Personally, I like the tone of my drums using the settings recommended in the drum dial instructions. Some people might like their drums set higher or lower. It doesn't matter because once you get the desired tone, you just write down the drum dial numbers for that drum and you can always get it back to that tone easily. Some purists will say you should just learn to tune the "right way" which is the old-fashioned way. Well, my buddy tunes his electric guitar with an electronic tuner, so why shouldn't I use technology, too? Again, if you've ever struggled to make your drums "sound right" or been frustrated by the whole drum tuning experience, get the drum dial. I'll never be without one again.

The rings arrived about a day or 2 earlier than scheduled. They pretty much do their job which is to cancel out resonance and to dampen the sound of the drum being played.
Would highly recommend.

DW Drum Workshop SM101 Two-Way Bass Drum Beater Review

DW Drum Workshop SM101 Two-Way Bass Drum Beater
Average Reviews:

Used this beater to replace a wood, ball beater I'd used for 20 years. Used it on a gig where drums were provided and loved the weight, sound, and especially the balance. I'm using the hard felt side of this reversible beater and it delivers a solid whack, with just enough high overtones to offer definition. The balance can be fine tuned via a memory lock-style collar on the beater shaft. The beater provides as much leverage as you'd like, but can be adjusted to also provide very quick feedback on doubles.

Aquarian Drumheads SKII22 Super-Kick II Double Ply 22-inch Bass Drum Head Review

Aquarian Drumheads SKII22 Super-Kick II Double Ply 22-inch Bass Drum Head
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you are reading this, then you are at least a little but curious about what Aquarian's Super kick II has to offer.
In 6 years of drumming, I have yet to find another kick head that matches up to this one. Simply put, it is the best thing out there. This bass drum head is great for several different reasons:
1. Extremely durable- You can beat the snot right out of this thing and it will hold up very well. The material is very strong, and there are TWO layers of it for extra strength.
2. Sounds incredible!- Its true. This bass drum head will completely transform the sound of your kit. I have thrown one of these on some of the crappiest kick drums ever crafted, and even they sounded good with it. I get compliments all the time on my kick. Super punchy and consistent.
3. Doesn't need muffling. For a live application, this head needs little to no padded muffling. Even in a normal house or practice room setting, the built in dual muffle rings act as a perfect device for keeping this drum head under control. If you want to add a little punch, throw in a very small t-shirt and it takes the edge off a bit.
I have even heard die hard Evans fans rave about these kick heads, they are just the best out there!
