Casio SA-76 44 Key Mini Keyboard, Orange Review

(More customer reviews)This keyboard fits into my slightly larger backpack. Its portability allows me to carry it around and work out melodic and harmonic ideas for the songs I write when I'm away from home. The eight-note polyphony is really helpful for chording.
A problematic issue exists with the Casio SA-75 power adaptor that is advertised as an optional accessory on the Amazon page that features the keyboard. The adaptor isn't compatible because the jack-end doesn't fit into the 9.5 volt terminal on the back of the keyboard. The manual claims the six batteries required to operate the keyboard will last for about six hours, though.
I contacted the seller of the SA-75 adaptor and they told me that the correct adaptor for the SA-76 keyboard won't be available until December 2010.
The tones are clear and reasonably distinctive, perhaps slightly less so in the brass. The rhythm patterns cover all the basics, and there's more than enough volume control to play with. All in all, after two weeks of using it, I would say that this is a cool little keyboard!

(More customer reviews)At first glance, you think...'Dang, I'm going to be bustin' outs some awesome drum beats with these sticks.' Unfortunately that's not the case. Since each sound is produced with only 1 stick (either the left or the right) you can't get any rolling type sounds. You can actually bust out better beats tapping with your hands on a table or your lap. Also, the sound isn't produced by tapping the sticks on a surface. You have to actually air drum so your timing can be slightly off. It's like playing the drums on one of those a digital keyboards except you do a drumming motion instead of tapping a keyboard key.

The sounds of the drums are not quite as loud as the sound of the sticks hitting the drum pads, but it's still fun. It has a neat little demo song he loves to play along with. It has a 'sleep mode' after not even a minute that shuts it off. Normally it would be pretty neat to have that feature, but in this case it's kind of inconvenient because you have to adjust the drum volume back up to an audible level (louder than the sticks on the pad) each time the unit shuts off. Over all, I recommend it as a fun toy but will definitely get him real drums when he's a bit bigger.

This Remo gathering drum does have a beautiful, deeply rich sound that resonates... unexpected quality for a product in this price range and intended audience. This is a nice-sized, well-made drum, and two people can easy play it together with the mallets or with their hands. (Three small children could play together as well). We prefer to play with the mallets going from the edge of the drum head to its center. The feet of this drum are a nice touch, and they probably add to the sound quality by raising the instrument the floor a few inches. Though the drum is intended for children, we like the fact that it does not look like a child's drum....like the other Remo product with all the animals. The rainbow pattern is pretty--no age defining graphics; thus, adults will be attracted to this drum if they encounter it at a drum circle.
Use this product with thunder tubes, egg shakers, and boomwhackers to create a fantastic rainstorm, either for drum circle fun, percussion lessons, or theatrical productions.

World Tour Jr Complete 5 Piece Drumset with Drum Throne and Drum Sticks - Gloss Black Review

(More customer reviews)based on other reviews, I thought this would be a long, difficult process. Luckily, that wasn't the case. My 10-yr-old and I put it together in about an hour. There was a single piece of paper, double sided, with simple directions. Neither of us had ever put one together before, and we only snapped at each other once. However, I will say that we have been around musical instruments, and are familiar with what it "should" look like.
Tuning the drum heads was the trickiest part. Go slow. Put ALL the rods on LOOSELY, then tighten in "rounds", turning opposing rods to get a uniform tightness (if the drum head looks "wringly" it's because it is tightened unevenly. Hit the drum head (w/stick) in front of each rod to make sure they have same tone. If one area it sounds too low, tighten that rod, and so on until the perimeter of the entire drum head has the same tone.
Anyway, we got this for my 5-yr-old, who is very musically/rhytmically gifted, and he's looooving it! I was impressed with the sturdyness of this drum set. He is wailing on it. I'll try to update after a few months to see how it's holding up.

TKO 5-Piece Complete Kids/Children's Junior Drum Set - BLACK Review

(More customer reviews)It is a wonderful set for kids but the directions are written for professional musicians with one glaring oversight which is that the directions describe how to assemble each piece but not how to connect the entire set together. My suggestion is to print out the photo and use that as your guide instead of using the one page of directions...you will get to sleep a lot sooner. Otherwise, our 4 year old loves it. Also, search ear plugs and purchase those as well.
