Latin Percussion LPM1400 Udu Drum Museum Series Ltd Review

Latin Percussion LPM1400 Udu Drum Museum Series Ltd
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I happen to order a Meinl ID8-RB IBO drum the same time i ordered this drum and they both arrived on the same day within an hour of each other the Meinl arrived first, so i unpacked it and played it for about an hour and it had alot of various tones between the ceramic, and the fiberglass bottom, as well as a very deep base sound, but it was a huge drum and very awkward and uncomfortable to play on my lap.
Then the LPM 1400 museum series arrived an hour later, now keep in mind the LP is a mere $50.00 to the Meinl's $120.00 and yet the LP was packaged much better and also included a booklet telling you about the drum and showing the other models available, not to mention a very cool tightly wrapped round tweed rope stand and this drum was incredibly comfortable in my lap and had very bright and deep bass sounds, and i must admit so much more smooth playing than the Meinl.
It's just a great drum and has immediately become my favorite out of the 3 i have, the other 2 being the Meinl Liquid IBO drum $160.00 and of course the ID8-RB Ceramic/Fiberglass bottom newer addition, LP really makes a quality product and it will probably get the most play out of the 3 because of it's great sound and comfort and ease of playing....buy this drum.

Hand Sewn Djembe Drum Bag Review

Hand Sewn Djembe Drum Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I took a chance on this product because I liked the idea of having a handmade bag for my djembe drum rather than some boring, cloned factory thing. When I visited this page, there were some interesting images and brief descriptions, but no reviews. Also, there was no "choice" or selection button to choose a particular bag, which meant that the seller would send me the product, but the sender would choose the color / design for me. I wouldn't know what the product look like until I received it--a total surprise. Nevertheless, I went ahead with the purchase because I wanted a bag; the given samples seemed to be interesting and tasteful. Well, I received my bag today, and I am very impressed with the product (see the customer images section for a view) and the seller's quick service. I actually liked the pattern / style that was chosen for me, sort of a black and clay color, with African motif; I liked it even better than the sample ones pictured! :) The bag feels sturdy, well-made, and it seems to be the perfect travel for my instrument. It's a pleasure to show! An unusual instrument deserves an unusual bag.
NOTE: Remember, this is a handmade product, so If you order, please expect unique colors / styles, stitching, and other human elements. In my opinion, the handmade nature adds to the beauty and uniqueness of the bag.

Remo 14" x 21" Bahia Bass Drum - Gypsy Red Review

Remo 14 x 21 Bahia Bass Drum - Gypsy Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK, I know: percussion purists will undoubtedly balk at my opinion, but I found these gypsy red Remo Bahia Bass drums to be just what every drum circle needs! While nobody will argue that djuns are the ideal for marking the pulse, thiese custom techno developed drums by Remo fill in nicely. They can even carry the drum circle's bass beat if your djun player doesn't show up, or if you're hauling gear to the beach or a campground. Lightweight, portable, and with their own rubber feet to stand upon, these are affordable and durable. I play mine with a surdo mallet in one hand, and use my other hand to dampen the sound, to produce a contrasting slap, or even to play the counter note with a djun stick. Lots of possibilities with these little champs. Stay in tune, impervious to cold and rainy weather, easy to tote, and with big sound, I happily discovered what a great investment these are.

Meinl Fiberglass Liquid Ibo Drum Review

Meinl Fiberglass Liquid Ibo Drum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Meinl Liquid IBO drum is the most expensive for a very good reason, you can literally and fast or subtly change the pitch and tone of the drum by holding it at certain angles as the water moves into different parts of the metal base.
Doing this might take a bit of practice, especially if your not familiar with IBO or UDU drums but once you are, the different sounds you get are very rewarding, and the big bulbis shape of Meinl's drums are just effortless and so comfortable to hold and play, there are days where i have it in my lap for hours playing it or just holding it, sometimes forgetting it's even there, almost like a kid with a teddy bear, it's that comfortable.
Anyone who purchases this drum will not be sorry, their has not been a day that has gone by since i bought it, that i have not taken it out for a short or long period of time, it's getting to the point where i don't feel comfortable unless i'm holding this drum and tapping out a different rhythm every time.

LP Latin Percussion Udu Hand Drum Tambuta Review

LP Latin Percussion Udu Hand Drum Tambuta
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just received this a few days ago and each day I find more possibilities with it. If you collect a lot of different hand drums, this is a great buy for your collection. It can be as versatile as you want it to be.
Another great thing about this is that it can further encourage the percussionist in all of us. It allows one to be forced from their comfort zone to a new terrain that will not only allow one to better draw sound from this and other Udu drums, but how to draw new and beautiful sounds from the world around you.
A concern with it (which the picture doesn't show off) is that the (horn?) coming out of the bottom is awkwardly placed so that the ring it comes with won't fit on it.
One could rest it in their lap with the horn sticking out from between your legs. Along with this looking a little strange, it dampens the drum. I have found the best way to rest the drum is with the horn pointing at 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock in your lap while sitting on a chair. To keep it balanced, I keep (depending on if I have it pointing right or left) raising one knee higher than the other to help keep it balanced.
This concern, however, does not diminish an entire star on my review as it's sounds are unique. If you are familiar with other Udu drums, this can be compared to an Utar in how it is played.
If you are a percussionist new to Udus, it may be best to start with a claytone, a more traditionally shaped Udu. But this unique design allows for a unique performance and inspires adaptability in one's path as a percussionist and overall lover of sounds.

Lp Udu Drum Claytone #4 Review

Lp Udu Drum Claytone #4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The LP Percussion Udu Hand Drum Clatone #4 is a very good sounding drum as well as a beautiful sculptural object and comes with a woven ring for display - it is best played while sitting on the floor crosslegged in the tradititional manner. The sound produced with the palms of the hand is very deep and warm- it reminds me of a "heartbeat". Variations in sound can be produced by tapping with the finger tips as well. For recording purposses the instrument would be best by using the small sound hole on the neck for a mic . However for live intimate performance with a small group it does produce enough volume. The Musem Quality clay is beautifully sculpted into the authentic primal shape and can also qualify to me as an art object-but, must be played for full enjoyment.
I was surprised however in the color of the instrument-it did not resemble the dark smokey black brown clay as pictured in the dramatic photograph pictured but was rather a much lighter shade of khacky tan with bright orange accents. This may not be a problem for some but part of the appeal of the drum is the aesthetic value for me. I am very familiar with smoked black pottery shadings created in the firing process for this type of pot indigenously used in creating the vessel - so I rubbed into the surface a combination of black and brown enamel paint with my hands on the surface creating a better look that pleased me and did not alter the sound of the drum in any way.
I recommend getting the #4 as it it is the largest producing the deepest tone. The price was very good at AMAZON
and shipping time very fast-packing excellant - I am very pleased. The sound is everything with an Udu and this is 5 stars.THANK YOU AMAZON AND LP PERCUSSION.

This Remo Set of 6 Pretuned Hand Drums is a great investment. To buy each on separately would have cost quite a bit more. They are well-made and sound wonderful. I use them for my 6th grade class along with some leather hand drums (which often lose their tone due to dampness and cold weather).

Toca Vuur Djembe, 12 Inches Review

Toca Vuur Djembe, 12 Inches
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a Drum Circle Facilitator, I have dozens of hand drums and percussion pieces. But of all of them, this mahogany wood, goatskin head, rope-tuned 12" diameter Toca Vuur is my favorite. It's the one I set aside for ME to play! The bass sound is deep, the tones and slaps are crisp. It's just the right size for a woman of average height. I can tip it forward to get the full sound volume, without having to use a stand. Also, the simple line carvings on the Vuur are quite attractive. This is the djembe to purchase if you've been in drum circles and are ready to graduate from a synthetic shell amd head to a solid wood hand drum, without breaking the bank.

Lp Udu Drum Claytone #3 Review

Lp Udu Drum Claytone #3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This instrument produces a wide range of tones from crackling highs to swelling lows. It is very accessible and comfortable to play. Like the Uta, this instrument is not very loud, so it will need to be mic'ed in all but the smallest ensembles. Finding a mic small enough to fit in the mic hole is difficult and likely to be expensive. Other than that, the instrument is a good purchase for those who want to explore percussion off the beaten path.
