Pearl Vision Birch VBX925S/B235 Drum Kit, Concord Fade (Cymbals Not Included) Review

The time had come for my son to graduate from a pad set to a real drum set. After shopping around looking at student level drum sets, we decided on this one. Our family philosophy when buying things is to go for quality and then keep them a long time. This set fits that philosophy and we could not be happier with the purchase. Outstanding shell quality. Outstanding fit, finish and hardware. Acceptable drum heads - not my favorites but are good quality and will work well for now. My son's face lit up when we opened the boxes and he is thrilled with both the sound and the professional look of the equipment. All in all - great for practice, garage bands, playing locally. It is that good of a set. As for any downsides - none with the equipment we got. Just with the unclear picture which, along with the drums, shows a lot of other equipment such as cymbal stands, etc. In the description under the picture supplied, the text says "Cymbals Not Included". However, what they mean is that the cymbals, cymbal stands, snare stand, and the pedals/pedal hardware are not included. This kit is the 3 Toms, floor tom, base drum, snare drum plus all the hardware (900 series) needed to put the drums together in the setup shown. Not much of a sweat for our family as we already had the pedals and high hat and I was able to pick up two solid quality used cymbal stands and a snare stand on ebay all for less than $100 shipped. Just keep in mind what is being offered so there are no surprises.

Pearl Forum FZH725/B91 Drum Kit, Red Wine Review

Pearl Forum FZH725/B91 Drum Kit, Red Wine

I have now ordered this Pearl Drum Kit twice from Amazon and in both instances I received the kit without the HWP-790 Hardware Package it is supposed to include (High-Hat Stand, Splash stand, ride stand, kick drum pedal, or throne). I clearly communicated to the customer service rep on the phone what was missing...and even provided the SKU # for the missing box the first time this happened.
I was told by the rep that I could wait and maybe someone could find the missing box in the warehouse (waited two weeks and never heard anything)...or I could return the merchandise. Of course because of the size of the boxes I had to pay to return the boxes. The cost of reshipping was refunded to me...but what a hassle having to repack the thing and ship it back.
Needless to say, I will never again attempt to order something like this from Amazon again. The price was great; but the service and delevery lacked a lot.

The New Drum Revolution is here
It began in 1983 with the development of a radical electronic drum design incorporating traditional drum heads and high sensitivity piezo triggers. Re-thinking the way electronic percussion was sampled, triggered, and played, Ddrum allowed players to access a universe of sonic possibilities. Ddrum's unique designs set a benchmark for innovation when our trademark red Acoustic Pro Drum Triggers were introduced.

The Ddrum Team has taken their passion for the perfect drum kit to the next level by re-thinking the acoustic drum set, creating instruments that truly shatter the mold of conventionality, and bridging the gap between craftsman and connoisseur.

Pound out a pro-sounding rhythm with this ddrum Dios M-Series 5-piece drum kit in olive sparkle (model DS MP 20), which offers a rich aural texture thanks to its 100 percent North American Maple shells. It comes with a bass drum, snare drum, tom tom, and two floor tom; hardware and cymbals are not included in this package. They feature a hand-stained inner shell that creates a smooth conduit for vibration and sound to travel through and a glass-like finish on the exterior. Other features include ddrum's custom bullet lug design and 2.3mm triple flanged hoops.

Sonor Phil Rudd AC/DC Special Edition Shell Pack Review

Sonor Phil Rudd AC/DC Special Edition Shell Pack
Average Reviews:

This is not a high-end kit, but it is a great kit for under $300. Included is a 22x18 "virgin" bass drum, 13x13 rack tom, and 16x18 and 18x18 floor toms. No snare drum. Fit and finish is very good and the black wrap looks almost like a lacquer finish -- it's really nice. The toms are huge in both diameter and depth for a typical kit, but the bass drum is a normal run-of-the-mill size at 22x18. I guess these are the sizes Phil actually uses. The shells are made of basswood, which is much less expensive than birch or maple -- the typical woods used for drums. However, basswood is really underrated IMHO. It has a warm tone with nice low-end frequencies and good projection. As with most drum kits, the heads are throw-aways, but they tune-up beautifully with good quality heads. The included mounting stand for the rack tom is very adequate and the legs on the floor toms and bass drum are quite sturdy. I have been drumming for over 30 years and bought this kit for my son's first kit. I didn't want to spend too much in case he decides not to continue with drumming, but I wanted a good quality kit in case he does. This kit is perfect for that. I think he (and me too!!!) will be playing it for a long long time.

I purchased my Ddrum Dios birch snare drum as a secondary snare and cannot be happier. The olive sparkle and tube lugs give it that vintage look I was going for to match the rest of my set. Really good drum.

Bass Drum O's Hole Cutter (Standard) Review

Bass Drum O's Hole Cutter (Standard)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product really doesn't do anything that you can't do with common tools, but it takes the guesswork out of cutting a drum hole. Since I only need to cut a hole once year or two, it was worth the 5 bucks to get it right the first time. The picture of the cutter is pretty self-explanator. Put the pin into the hole which represents the diameter you're going for (the holes are conveniently labelled). Then hold that center pin in place while you spin and depress the end cutter. The end cutter is a little disk, kind of like a micro pizza cutter. The cutter is not particularly sharp (for instance, you couldn't really cut yourself by running your finger over it, but it's more than sufficient for drum head material.
If you want to destroy your drum head, then try to cut it while mounted. For the rest of us, take the head off and lay it on a firm surface that you're not worried about getting marred by the cutter. I used soft corrugated cardboard the first time and it was a little too soft/mushy to get a clean hole in one try (some areas didn't cut through). Not a big deal, I just reran the cutter around the circle, but I think the edge was a little rougher for it.
