(More customer reviews)This is not a high-end kit, but it is a great kit for under $300. Included is a 22x18 "virgin" bass drum, 13x13 rack tom, and 16x18 and 18x18 floor toms. No snare drum. Fit and finish is very good and the black wrap looks almost like a lacquer finish -- it's really nice. The toms are huge in both diameter and depth for a typical kit, but the bass drum is a normal run-of-the-mill size at 22x18. I guess these are the sizes Phil actually uses. The shells are made of basswood, which is much less expensive than birch or maple -- the typical woods used for drums. However, basswood is really underrated IMHO. It has a warm tone with nice low-end frequencies and good projection. As with most drum kits, the heads are throw-aways, but they tune-up beautifully with good quality heads. The included mounting stand for the rack tom is very adequate and the legs on the floor toms and bass drum are quite sturdy. I have been drumming for over 30 years and bought this kit for my son's first kit. I didn't want to spend too much in case he decides not to continue with drumming, but I wanted a good quality kit in case he does. This kit is perfect for that. I think he (and me too!!!) will be playing it for a long long time.
