Gibraltar SC-BDHG Bass Drum Hoop Guard 2/Pack Review

Gibraltar SC-BDHG Bass Drum Hoop Guard 2/Pack

I bought a used drum set and it came with this ugly metal hoop clamp which did not look aesthetically pleasing and it mounted with a screw! I took that ugly clamp off and cleaned the area. I was actually looking for one of those Tama hoop savers when I came across this Gibraltar unit. The Tama piece is nothing more than a thick sticker and only protects a small amount of the flat side of the hoop. It's common sense that the part of the hoop that takes the most abuse will be the edge. This drum hoop guard solves that problem because it goes slightly over the edge of the hoop.
I like this design because it is rubber and provides cushioning from any vibration or squeak that the pedal contact with the hoop might cause.
I have a black lacquered hoop and this unit matches perfectly. It will of course look good with any other color as it is the perfect size and disappears under the pedal.
Just make sure that before you install it, you clean the hoop thoroughly to remove any dirt or any type of wax residue otherwise the adhesive will not stick properly. What I did was cleaned the area, placed the hoop guard on and held it tightly for a minute. So far, it has not come off. The adhesive is not the strongest so the cleaning is important and once you install it, don't try to take it off and try to reposition it as the adhesive will go away.
The unit is cheap protection and a good value at the price. Gibraltar makes another model if you want to use it with a metal hoop. This unit is for wood hoops.
EDIT: The adhesive on the bottom of the product is not very sticky. After repeated attachment/reattachment of the pedal, the hoop guard will come off. Right now, my hoop guard is just sitting on the hoop and my pedal is holding it there. If I take the pedal off, the hoop guard will fall off. I wish the adhesive was much stronger but you can always use your own adhesive.

Drum Tuning: Sound & Design Review

Drum Tuning: Sound and Design

Come December 14th, it will mark 41 years since my very first drum lesson. In all these many years, I have practiced numerous hours and spoken to scores of fellow percussionists. Seldom has anyone, including myself, had much significant contribution in the area of drum tuning. We all just sort of wing it with what we perceive as a "good" sound.
Bob Gatzen has forever altered my thinking and approach to drum tuning. Bob has finally revealed the hidden mystery of maximizing the unrealized potential of every drum.
If you think that you know everything about drumming, Bob will surely blow your mind.
Hey Bob, if you ever read this: where were you in 1962, when I really needed you???
Respects to All,
Rick Rabineau

Remo Emperor Coated Drum Head - 14 Inch Review

Remo Emperor Coated Drum Head - 14 Inch

The remo emperor head did not work out very well for me. I used it on my 14" pacific cx series snare. It would probably work very well on toms. It is not a good head for a snare drum. but it would be perfect for rock toms and the g2 would do the same thing as they are virtually the same head, from different companies

Zildjian A Custom Crash Cymbal - 17 Inch Review

Zildjian A Custom Crash Cymbal - 17 Inch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had to buy my cymbal upgrade (from Sabian AA to Zildjian) about 3 months ago online cz I was overseas and couldn't try cymbals out in person. So I was relying on the youtube videos for audio samples. Unfortunately, and based on what I heard and liked online, I purchased an 18" Zildjian K custom Dark Crash so I can have some sort of "variation" ,if you will, with my 15" A Custom Crash and K ride and Hi hat. But I was wrong (way too dark).
I sold it and got myself this baby right here.
As a drummer, I'd hate it if my cymbals were too loud (in the studio and on stage). And this was one major reason for switching to Zildjians.
Definitely way better than K custom and K Crashes if you're not a jazz drummer.
If you're looking for Crashes to buy with your Zildjian Set, A custom(s) is/are for you.
Peace
