(More customer reviews)I purchased this set of bongos as a birthday present for my 7 year-old son. They came out of the box pretty much ready to play, just a few turns of the tuning wrench had them good to go. I was pretty impressed by the sturdy construction and the real skin heads.
My son has been happily beating on this set for a couple of weeks now, and he seems to really be enjoying them. The skins have broken in now with the frequent playing, and that has softened the tone a little. This set really packs a good sound into a small package. Highly recommended if you want a good set of starter bongos for yourself or your kids. Would also make a good travel set or something to keep in your office for those days when you just want to bang your own drum.

I was skeptical about them being up to his standards as he's a trained percussionist from his youth and although he has since gone into a more professional career as an adult he still knows whats-what when it comes to anything drums.
And.... he LOVED them. He was surprised that Amazon carried such a professional brand. He said they were better than the set he already had.
What do you get the guy who has everything? Something he already has and loves, of course!! So he has now started a small collection of bongos and likes to have jam sessions with family and friends whenever possible... and having more than one set now makes this possible.
I may have to buy myself a set so I can practice for our future jam sessions! :)

I was interested in playing bongos and did some research on the internet, which lead me to these beauties! They arrived in pristine condition and I just had to tune them up a bit. They sound great and being ABS plastic, they are very durable and can take a beating! For this price they are a great deal. I had some Toca fiberglass bongos I bought in 99' I think for 80 dollars, I think these sound just as good and they seem a little more durable as well! Great buy!

(More customer reviews)I gig with them and mine are 16 years old. If you are some what serious about your sound, you may want to contact JCR Percussion, Bronx,NY and order a set of "pre-mounted" mule skin heads for Matador bongo as I did. However, even with the stock heads, these are a great instrument. As far as the shells and hardware goes...they are near bullet proof, if cared for and used properly. Sure, there are other brands out there to choose from, but for the cash these are great for the multi-percussionist. But if you are true bongocero, you are most likely not reading this review.

GP Percussion B10 Pro-Series Tunable Bongos 6.5 & 8 Inch (Clear Finish, Hickory) Review

(More customer reviews)When I opened the box to take the bongos out I noticed that they were loose at the connection of the two drums, I tried to tighten them only to find that one of the wing nuts holding them together had minimal threads and was stripped. I had to go to the hardware store and find a new nut that would fit the bolt before I could even give them to my daughter as a gift. Needless to say I am not very pleased with the made in China quality, & the fact that I needed to repair them before they could even be used :-(, NEVER AGAIN !!
