If you are some what serious about your sound, you may want to contact JCR Percussion, Bronx,NY and order a set of "pre-mounted" mule skin heads for Matador bongo as I did. However, even with the stock heads, these are a great instrument. As far as the shells and hardware goes...they are near bullet proof, if cared for and used properly. Sure, there are other brands out there to choose from, but for the cash these are great for the multi-percussionist. But if you are true bongocero, you are most likely not reading this review.
