(More customer reviews)I happen to order a Meinl ID8-RB IBO drum the same time i ordered this drum and they both arrived on the same day within an hour of each other the Meinl arrived first, so i unpacked it and played it for about an hour and it had alot of various tones between the ceramic, and the fiberglass bottom, as well as a very deep base sound, but it was a huge drum and very awkward and uncomfortable to play on my lap.
Then the LPM 1400 museum series arrived an hour later, now keep in mind the LP is a mere $50.00 to the Meinl's $120.00 and yet the LP was packaged much better and also included a booklet telling you about the drum and showing the other models available, not to mention a very cool tightly wrapped round tweed rope stand and this drum was incredibly comfortable in my lap and had very bright and deep bass sounds, and i must admit so much more smooth playing than the Meinl.
It's just a great drum and has immediately become my favorite out of the 3 i have, the other 2 being the Meinl Liquid IBO drum $160.00 and of course the ID8-RB Ceramic/Fiberglass bottom newer addition, LP really makes a quality product and it will probably get the most play out of the 3 because of it's great sound and comfort and ease of playing....buy this drum.

LP Latin Percussion Udu Hand Drum Tambuta Review

(More customer reviews)I just received this a few days ago and each day I find more possibilities with it. If you collect a lot of different hand drums, this is a great buy for your collection. It can be as versatile as you want it to be.
Another great thing about this is that it can further encourage the percussionist in all of us. It allows one to be forced from their comfort zone to a new terrain that will not only allow one to better draw sound from this and other Udu drums, but how to draw new and beautiful sounds from the world around you.
A concern with it (which the picture doesn't show off) is that the (horn?) coming out of the bottom is awkwardly placed so that the ring it comes with won't fit on it.
One could rest it in their lap with the horn sticking out from between your legs. Along with this looking a little strange, it dampens the drum. I have found the best way to rest the drum is with the horn pointing at 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock in your lap while sitting on a chair. To keep it balanced, I keep (depending on if I have it pointing right or left) raising one knee higher than the other to help keep it balanced.
This concern, however, does not diminish an entire star on my review as it's sounds are unique. If you are familiar with other Udu drums, this can be compared to an Utar in how it is played.
If you are a percussionist new to Udus, it may be best to start with a claytone, a more traditionally shaped Udu. But this unique design allows for a unique performance and inspires adaptability in one's path as a percussionist and overall lover of sounds.

Latin Percussion LP1400-UT Udu Drum Utar Review

(More customer reviews)This instrument is well made and produces very nice tones. From sharp attacks and high crispy tones, to swelling low tones, there is so much to explore. For example, using a finger slap on the neck will produce a ringing bell tone. I don't have a microphone small enough to fit into the hole, and after shopping around, I see it is difficult to get one small enough at a reasonable price (regardless of quality), so the only mic'ing I have tried is external and the results are what you would expect. However, the instrument is beautiful and functional and worth the price.
