(More customer reviews)These bongos are nicely finished and made from an attractive, light colored wood. Comes with a drum key in a little storage pouch for tuning, and the pouch is attached with a lanyard so it isn't lost. Skin heads seem to be good quality, as are the hoops and hardware. A little tuning and they sound very good! Lots of fun to play too, even if you're not a percussionist. My daughter and I have a blast playing together in various fun ways, and I also find it to be an unexpectedly great way to relax.
It's a good idea to back off the tension evenly and apply a drop or two of light household oil to the threads before tuning the heads. This makes tuning a lot easier and will make the hardware last a lot longer, as the threads are totally without lubrication when shipped, and rather stiff. Just dab a paper towel to catch any excess oil and be sure to keep it off the skins.
Altogether I think that bongos are a lot more fun than I imagined, and these seem to be quite satisfactory for informal use, especially for the price.
