Remo Rhythm Club Konga (6 Inch) Review

Remo Rhythm Club Konga (6 Inch)

My son got this with the club bongos and this almost gets played more often than the bongos. But it's also been picked up and played by the Grandparents and every kid that has come over to play. So much fun. So durable and has a wonderful sound to it!
The only precaution...little ones like to put the strap around their heads, not advisable!!

Remo Tubanito Caldera Red 10" Review

Remo Tubanito Caldera Red 10
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this wanting a portable conga. I own 2 big gon-bops congas, but they are not that much fun to lug around. I also play a pair of Pearl Primero congas at church. I set this up on a snare stand next to congas and was so delighted with the sound, I started using this more.
Now, you have to play with it some to get the sounds you want, sometimes using your fingers more than your palm for deeper sounds. I was sold on the idea that congas and bongos must have real skin heads, but the sound coming from this head has totally changed my mind. It has much more volume than I would have imagined also.
I don't know if this replaces real wood congas, but it has such a pretty distinct sound, that its worth buying as an add-on. And it really fits the bill as a good portable drum. You do need to buy a bag for it though. Remo sells a bag, and you can also use a snare drum gig bag for it-like a 6.5 by 14" would be roomy enough.
If you want to play standing up, you are going to need a tall snare stand-those are normally designated as a concert snare stand because concert percussionists play standing up and kit drummers play seated.

LP Set of 4 Rubber Conga Feet Review

a simple design for the seated player, allows your congas stability, so that you can beat your own drum without the worry of it slipping from between your legs, due to the super-smooth, glossy finishes on most modern conga drums...I have 3 congas and they ALL stand on their own FEET!!

Latin Percussion Mini Tunable Conga Review

Latin Percussion Mini Tunable Conga
Average Reviews:

This drum (can it really be called a conga at this size? let's just stick to drum...)
is a real instrument. The construction of the shell and the quality of the head,
hoop and tensioners all indicate that this is not a toy -- it's meant to be played.
But you should know that this a very small drum -- the head diameter is about
3 1/2". So it can't really be played like a conga, especially in terms of getting
any kind of a bass note with the palm of your hand (the palm of your hand
practically covers the entire head). But for what it is, it sounds great. As a finger
drum, it sounds more like something from South Asia than from South or Central
America. Very nice ring tone. I like this drum a lot, but mostly just to fool around
with. I can't imagine it being very useful as an accompaniment to anything other
than maybe a single acoustic guitar, and I can't really imagine it being part of a
larger percussion ensemble. But as a "apartment drum", it's great!

Latin Percussion Compact Quinto, 11-inch Review

Latin Percussion Compact Quinto, 11-inch
Average Reviews:

Why, you may ask, should you buy this little body-less conga, when you can get a "real" conga for about the same price? Well, for one thing, this *is* a real instrument, made by a great company (Latin Percussion) that's going to outlast one of the cheap Asian imported Congas that you'll soon be dissatisfied with. Another is that this is a drum you'll want to keep, for practice and travel, even if you do have a set of custom $600 congas, tumbas, quintos and so forth.
I bought mine as a learning instrument. I've played drums off and on for decades, but never hand drums, and a friend recommended the Compact Conga as a much better choice than the cheap imports I was looking at. He was right. This is a beautiful, solidly made unit that's easy to play and delivers a surprising amount of tone, considering that there's no body. True, you won't get the real deep bass notes of a full-sized conga, but you'll get all the exrpessiveness of a full sized drum. (LP has a video of Giovanni himself playing it on their web site that will demonstrate this for you).
The three raised feet on the bottom of the drum allow it to be played on a table top, but you'll really want a solid snare stand to put it on- something with mass, that can take serious slapping. I suppose you could build a wooden stand if you're handy- just make sure it can take heavy playing without moving about. (Personally, I've been kind of tempted to place it over the end of a Sonotube to hear how it would sound).
For beginners, like myself, this is a great way to learn without investing a lot of money in expensive drums. For experienced players, I think this would be a great practice or travel drum. If you have your own home recording studio, I suspect this would be a great way to add some good conga sounds to your recordings without a huge investment. A fine product, with typical LP quality, and a great value.

LP World Beat Santana Conga Review

This beautifully constructed conga will afford you years of drumming pleasure.
Its fiberglass body results in a durable drum with a sound that is loud enough to carry without amplification in a small- to medium-sized room.
The natural cowhide drum head provides rich and complex tones.
Although technically this might be classified as a requinto due to the 10 inch head size, you will not miss the extra bulk.
Furthermore, this light and compact conga can be placed sideways on the lap and played like the dholak drum that is native to India.

My wife ordered it as a birthday gift. It arrived promptly without any damage. The stand is very sturdy and balanced. After some tuning the drums sound awesome. Wonderful purchase. I am an amateur player and am very pleased with the set. Will buy two more of different diameter to make it a quad set.
