(More customer reviews)I ordered a "blem" kit from Musician's Friend about a month ago. I generally had no problem ordering with Musician's Friend, because they'd never screwed up one of my orders. Well, apparently "blem" doesn't just refer to the item's cosmetic state, but actually a way of the merchant covering themselves when you get something that's likely been thrown down a flight of stairs. Out-of-round shells, busted snare strips, stripped clamp on the bass pedal, and, most importantly: missing hardware.
This wouldn't have been a problem if Musician's Friend's customer service were not totally clueless as to musical equipment, and could have sent one along to me. After waiting a few weeks for the "missing parts department" to find my tom arm and ship it to me, I sent another e-mail, a bit more irate. This time I got a response that everything would be fine, because they've ordered a new tom arm for me, free of charge. That arrives the following week, and is a Pearl ratchet-style tom arm, completely useless to me as I have suspension-style hoop mounting on my tom drum.
I send Musician's Friend another e-mail, getting rather desperate, this time simply asking them what part I need for my drum kit so I can just wash my hands of the whole company and just get my drum kit together, somehow. I'm told to buy this item, but naturally I don't want to buy it from Musician's Friend, I'll look for it on Amazon.
WHEN I BOUGHT THIS EXACT ITEM IT WAS ADVERTISED AS BEING SOLD BY A MERCHANT CALLED "GIARDINELLI'S", so I went ahead. Order confirmation shows up in my e-mail from Musician's Friend. Sneaky devils. Making themselves up to sound like a small music shop selling items through Amazon? Now why do they need to do that, aren't they a big online merchant in the first place? Couldn't possibly be to snatch up a few rogue customers they'd scared away with their customer service in the first place, could it?
But it doesn't end here. I am sent an e-mail the other day by Amazon informing me that "Giardinelli's" has not confirmed my shipment. I send them an e-mail, as Amazon suggests, asking them about the availability of my item, why my order hasn't been confirmed after a week, and if it's not going to ship within a couple days, to cancel my order.
Guy from Musician's Friend writes back simply stating that the order has been cancelled.
Now I come back here and lo and behold, a mere day after my questioning of this merchant name to Musician's Friend, we can read "Item shipped and sold by Musician's Friend" replacing that Giardinelli's info. Probably just a coincidence, but still interesting.
Don't order anything through Musician's Friend.
