(More customer reviews)I purchased this stand for gigs because I obviously do not want to stand up the whole gig so I was thinking this would be a good fit for my set up. I play sitting down on a drum stool and have 2 congas infront of me and my djembe and stand to the left of me (call me lazy but I'm 23 and already have back problems). I actually do not have the stand set up like it is displayed in the picture with the man standing over it. I decided to bring the djembe straight down so its level with my congas, I wanted a flat surface to hit so I could get flush hits with the right accents. Now, this produced some minor problems but still slightly annoying.
First, the stand begins to make metallic creeking sounds when I play for an extended time, I believe the sound is coming from the hook that goes into the bottom of the djembe. I usually have the bottom of my djembe MICed up with a separate boom stand so I can pick up the full bass tones, unfortunately it sometimes picks up the creeking. I try to correct the situation by resting my knee under the belly of my djembe and it dampens the creeks. (I constantly tighten everything on the stand too)
Secondly, no matter what position you play in you will still want to possibly put a sand bag or something pretty damn heavy to keep the stand rock solid; although the throne part will still shake. I play next to the drummer on his carpet so without out my giant rock on the back feet my djembe moves all over while I play, and I find myself panicking trying to keep it still while I play and attempt to keep time with one hand hah. (My djembe is 14'' and is under 10lbs)
So, the stand will get the job done for the most part, another thing that somewhat bothers me is the rubber nubs on the throne that go into my tuning strings. It just makes me nervous cause I have to put the rubber nubs between the strings and spread them, its mostly designed for like a non authentic djembe. I think the stand gets the job done once you get it all figured out, just wish it was cheaper or more solid. All in all the price should get lowered to like 80, or they should improve the quality to make it fit its price range.
