I just switched to Evans from Remo. I liked this head because it is supposed to sound darker and the price is good. I use a GMAD batter and I use no muffling on the inside of a Session Custom all maple shell. You can just tap the head and hear that is has a lower sound than an Ebony PS3.
I'm actually not too crazy about the Matte finish. I like the shiny finish of the EQ and the Ebony series. You might like it though. Matte finish means that it is dull.
The internal ring also looks a little flimsy. The thickness looks less than the PS3 ring and it's a smaller overall ring.
Aesthetically I like how the Evans logo is on the bottom, so I can put a Pearl logo nicely on the top. I have no idea why Remo still makes the logo on the top.
It's a good resonant head. The port is a smaller 5" which I like and it is reinforced from the inside not the outside so it looks nicer. I would have like it if they offered a non-ported version as well.
It's sounds good with the GMAD you might also like the EMAD or the ONYX batter.
