(More customer reviews)I am a 30-year pianist wanting to get some drum rudiments back that I haven't had since percussion class in college. LONG time ago.
Zildjian's nylon-tipped 5A's are great "weight-wise" for me, but kept slipping out of my hands. Lacquer is cool-but not if you can't hang onto the darn things....and the nylon was not helping my 'beginner' status at all---rudiments kept sounding like crap because of an already-present LACK of stick control (as I am a beginner) but...nylon beads compounded the issue.
So I searched quite a bit before getting a set of RT-208R-JPs.
Porcaro's signature series is the most balanced stick I've ever played.
(I've played Vic Firth, and Zildjian, messed around with Vater....).
My Zildjian are 'emergency reserve only' now.
Thanks to Carol and the gang at Calato for skipping the last step in their process for Jeff. These sticks are "baby's butt smooth"; as a carpenter/cabinetmaker's kid, this concept is something I'm well-acquainted with. No blisters, no callouses, no cramping up-- no sticks sailing outta my hands, and a para-diddle SOUNDS like a para-diddle.
GET 'em. If not from Amazon, get 'em from the Regal website!

These folks KNOW what they're doing.
The second I pulled these 208R-JPs outta the box -I knew I'd spent my money on QUALITY product. Regal ain't no slouch. Calato KICKS BUTT.
MAKE SURE the retailer sends you RT-208R-JP*NOT* RT-208R.
The initials ENSURE the sticks are the ones Jeff signed off on.
His signature should be below Regal's logo-and it's kind of hard to miss -looks as if he was heavy-handed with a pen or sharpie.
These are 8A weight....beautiful balance. Absolutely lovely.
