(More customer reviews)I received this as a Christmas gift from my mom with every intention of hating it. It has a ridiculous looking red wooden doughnut around it's middle and has a smallish head. But after tightening the vertical ropes with two rows of Mali weave I'm glad that I didn't send it back. It sounds great! I'd describe the sound as a djembe/doumbek hybrid. Great bass like a djembe and a crisp treble tone like a doumbek. Plus it is very light weight and easy to play. A real surprise!
