I was looking for a Persian (Iranian) "daf", but couldn't find one on-line. So, in reviewing the various frame-drums available, I found this one. It is not technically a "daf", but sounds a lot like one. It consists of a very resonant goat-skin 22" "frame-drum" (kind of like a gigantic tambourine). Whereas a daf has a circle of interlinked metal rings around the inside of the back, This drum has clip-on sets of tambourine-like jingles inside the back, which can be very easily removed so that it becomes just a frame-drum (if you don't want the jingle sound.) I have had it viewed by a professional drum teacher, and he says it is of very high quality. It has a wide range of sounds, depending on where and how you strike it. (with your fingers, not with sticks) It has a beautiful sound. I also was Very impressed with the shop that sold it, their immediate responses to all my questions, and their excellent packing job so that it arrived in perfect condition. I also recommend buying the drum-bag that they recommend to carry it in. This drum appears to be valuable for either an amateur or a professional. Enjoy!
