I purchased a Dixon Outlaw kit (not this one) and I was amazed by the quality of the drums as I opened up the boxes. Not only was the lacquer finish flawless, the drums we well built and very solid. (On a side note, these Outlaw kits are NOT birch/mahogany, they are 100% Maple!) The hardware on the drums was nice chrome and when I put everything together, it made the drums feel sturdy, not cheap. Once I put everything together, tuned it up, these guys did not disappoint. You get a nice mighty punch out of the bass drums and the toms have a great tone to them which is also partly due to the fact that you get Evans G2's on the batter side and G1's on the reso's which is amazing value. On the bass drum you get a double ply Dixon reso and Evans EMAD head which allows more tonal control. If you want a fantastic drum set for the money, here is where you need to look. Dixon is now discontinued in the USA so once they are sold out, that's it. And just to let you know, these drums are built in the same factory (with very similar specs) as Gretsch drums! Trust me, you'll love them.
