I have played for 25+ years, tried every brand out there, and as a bit of a meticulous and heavy handed hitter, I am very demanding of my sticks, and Vater is the only way to go for me. As well as any other drummer that plays with integrity!
Being a passionate, and more of a heavy handed hitter, I have had to scale down the size of my sticks as not to overpower the rest of my band. I was using 7A-Manhattans, but I was breaking them too often where the shoulder is at it's thinnest point before the head. So I have stepped up one size to the New Orleans Jazz, and I think it's going to be just what I need. It is the same 16" in length, but just slightly larger to give you the same tapper, but with a slightly larger diameter thru the shoulder.
I also like that you can get it in nylon tip for better stick definition when riding on cymbals.
