I am so picky about the riq. My first one was almost $300 and hand made in Egypt and I recieved it from a music person who was good friends with the maker. It was as good as it gets. I loved it. I played it until it broke. It was made of fish skin. It is hard to replicate fish skin sound. I bought another riq but I didn't get the same sound or feeling from it.
I looked around and really never found another riq that pleased me. I read a good review online about this one, so I bought it. I liked it instantly. It is made of really good quality wood. I like the weight. I originally was looking for one heavier. Most of all what I like is the teka teka sounds. It just feels good.
The symbols which are like not the best quality brass don't sound so great when you shake it. Because the skin is made of plastic when you shake the tambourient, the symbols sound like they are hitting plastic. Its not the best sound. Shaking it lightly the symbols sound rough, not light, or crip or clear. Shaking it does not produce the best of sounds. Though, you can individually play one pair and that sounds alright.
