So I've had this kit for about 6 months now, and its pretty good. I'll just give a rundown of all the components.
Cymbal/Hi-Hat set up: The cymbals are not very sensitive and won't trigger if you hit them very lightly. The Hi-Hat pedal only has 2 settings, open and closed. This is annoying because i like to ease off the pedal just a little on a real hi hat so it sizzles when Im building up a beat. The heel splash actually works pretty good though, which I found surprising. Also they are rigidly set in place so that when you get on a real kit and the cymbals are swinging around it may throw you off.
Bass Drum Components: This is probably where I have had the most issues. the pedal that came with it was ok, but I just used it once to test it out before I sold it and put in my double pedal. The bass drum pad wasn't big enough for 2 pedals! The way it worked out both pedals are so close to the edge of the pad that you have to hit really hard to get it to trigger. Also after a few months of playing the sensitivity had worn out so that even a hit right smack in the middle had to be harder than it should be to trigger. What I did is go get a 12 inch remo practice pad and rigged electronics in it myself and set it up as a bass drum trigger (simple instructions to do this are available online) I am not that much of a heavy hitter, so if you are you'll want to think about this.
Snare: I guess I got lucky because my snare didn't do any of the stuff the other reviewers said. The raised edge of the pad triggers rimshot and the rest of the pad triggers regular snare. The one issue i had is that every now and then it acts up and wont trigger if i hit something else at the same time but harder (like hitting a cymbal hard while hitting the snare lightly). Again, this only happens every now and then but throws me off when it does.
Toms: No problems here. Work great!
Mounting system: It is made of sturdy metal and the clamps are all fine, but it is too low to the ground! I feel like they designed this rack for a little kid. I had to put 2 phonebooks under each leg to bring up to the right level for me (which looks kinda ghetto). However I am a lanky 6'2" (My arms and legs are way too long for my body) so maybe its just me.
Module: Probably the best part of this kit. I LOVE this module. I could go on forever about this module, so just look at the product page for Alesis DM6 module if you want to know all the functions.
Overall Cons: if you want to add more pieces you will have to buy a new cable snake from Alesis which will run you about $50 plus whatever the cost of the new pieces winds up being (I suggest you make your own)
Overall Pros: The drum pads are great. Not too hard, not too soft.
If you are a beginner to intermediate, you need to practice rudiments, sticking, four way coordination, control and speed. You can do all of this and more on this kit and you will improve vastly if you keep at it.
If you are an extremely advanced drummer and have moved on to real nitty gritty like having demon fast riffs and fills, you will probably experience triggering issues and this kit will hold you back.
