This is probably the best snare drum ever made. Every other drum company has built a copy of this instrument, but why bother when the original is still the best? The shell is spun aircraft aluminum, not steel. Chrome does not like to stick to aluminum so most Supraphonics end up with pitted finishes, but it doesn't bother the sound. If aluminum is not to your liking, versions of this drum are available in brass, bronze (both hammered and smooth) and then there's the ultimate black chrome plated brass shell "Black Beauty".
As a band director I have bought one of these for every band room I worked in that didn't have one already and I own one myself. They are easy to tune, easy to fix and parts are readily available if needed.
