True confessions - I play tenor with a pipe band so I was looking for different kinds of tenor mallets. Scottish mallets tend to have the soft squishy heads instead of these hard heads. But they work for my purposes. I really bought these because they had the strings already attached, so they could be used for swinging. BUT, I didn't know how the thicker shaft would affect the balance.
Turns out, I don't use them for flourishing, as they are a lot longer than my other flourishing mallets, and noticeably heavier. But I DO use them for when I'm on the bass drum, because the thicker grip works well for bass and the strings secure the mallets to my wrist.
So, I like these mallets but don't use them for my original purpose.
I'd like to hear from anyone else who can tell me what they use them for and how.
