(More customer reviews)The HQ Percussion Mountable Speed Pad (6" model) suits my purposes well. I personally use it as a practice pad mounted on my Tama practice pad stand.
Quiet and practical, the HQ Speed Pad can also be easily removed from the stand and utilized as an omnipresent aid in maintaining and improving one's fundamental drumming technique.
However, if there is a shortcoming inherent to the HQ Percussion Mountable Speed Pad, it lies the fact that the pad is not always mountable. The 8mm female threaded hole on the underside of the pad is too large for many male threaded shafts on standard cymbal stands as well as practice pad stands. One should make certain, ahead of time, that whatever stand one intends to use to mount the pad, both stand and pad have the same sized thread.
Likewise, most cymbal stands, even when at their lowest setting, are still too high to make them a comfortable height for a drummer who is seated on an average chair or bench.
The universal solution to the appropriate mounting of and stand height for the HQ Pad is to use [as I do] the Tama HS30TP Practice Pad Stand (6 to 10 Inch Pads). The Tama Practice Pad Stand not only securely holds the HQ pad in its basket jaws (not by tenuous screw threads), but also allows for the height of the stand pipe itself to be set at a low enough height so that the seated drummer is able to play down, so to speak, on the HQ Pad as he/she normally would on a snare drum.
To all intents and purposes, then, the HQ Percussion Mountable Speed Pad is one of the better ways to practice the fundamentals of drum playing. When matched with an adequate stand, the HQ Pad is a great practice tool.
Lastly, if need be, one can simply grab the HQ Pad and a pair of drumsticks and practice just about anywhere (lap, bed, table, etc.).Cheers,
